Yes

Which is why I initially said it was probably too late for the Alberta Party and it would be better to just create a whole new party.

The NDP takes the lead in Alberta

Quote:
With just over two weeks to go in the Alberta provincial election, a new survey of 885 eligible voters in Alberta by Abacus Data finds the Alberta NDP jumping ahead of the UCP after several months of near or complete deadlock in vote intentions between the two parties.

Among all eligible voters, the NDP has gained 7 points from our last survey before the election started. 43% of eligible voters say they would vote NDP followed by the UCP at 35%, the Alberta Party at 4% and other parties get 3%. 14% say they are still undecided – down eight points since April.

If the NDP win this I wonder if the UCP will cry about a stolen election; by UCP I mean David Parker.

So why didn't you change your god damn name Rachel?

I blame her 100% if Daniel Smith becomes the next premier of Alberta. effing.

1. As the NDP do have a connection to the Federal NDP, they would have to completely dissolve the party and reform, not just name change. I have no clue about the inner workings of the party, but since they share membership I would guess separating from the Federal NDP loses a lot of behind the scenes administration.

2. The Alberta NDP are the legacy of her father. Regardless of the outcome of an election, I don't see her ever going against that.

And, you know, you’d have to be about as intelligent as the people you’re talking about to think that those people would see a name change and suddenly go “wow, a different party! who is this charming new leader of these completely novel and unaffiliated party? they’ve got my vote!”

More than likely they’d be labelled with “formerly the NDP” in 2 seconds and the narrative would be that they’re trying to cover their connections.

Much prefer Notley’s actions AND words speak louder than a dorky little name change to appease the absolute dumbest in Alberta.

Another consideration is that many people in the party support the NDP and the traditional views associated with the NDP party both Federal and Provincial so why would they change the name if they support it?

Yes Notley disagrees with certain things that Singh says at the Federal level but that doesn't change that for the vast majority of the people involved with the party are left of centre and believe in the things that a NDP party represent.

The bc liberals just went through this at their convention last year. It's not that hard.

Also, I work at a company with a huge ucp billboard outside, because the owners absolutely believe the ndp are Singh communists, and a name change would confuse them.
