Best candidates to grab a potential late 1st for toffoli, imo are the avs, toronto with boston pick if they make moves up front, or Vegas. Maybe NJ if they trade meier and get one back.

Team is ####ed anyway so trade Hanafin for futures. Kylington to play with Tanev. Sign Gudas to Play with Zadorov. Let Chaos Ensue.

Sure and then trade Huberdeau + for one year of Matthews, if they both walk think of the awesome cap space we'll have

Alright maybe a crazy proposal but here goes
To CGY: Marner, Murray, Gio (16.4M)
To TOR: Lindholm, Hanifin, Markstrom ($15.8M)
Reason for the Flames:
They want to get skill and Marner is an elite 2 way winger who is a right shot and is an elite playmaker. Ideally he and Huberdeau each drive a line but perhaps they become a dealt combo? Maloney has said he wants more skill and scoring. Gio was a throw in to finish his career in Calgary playing out the last year of his deal on the bottom pair. He doesn’t have to be in the deal. Murray is there for cap and has 1 year left on his deal. Flames decide to roll with Vladar/Wolf combo and likely bury/buyout Murray. Marner has 2 years left on his deal.
Reason for Leafs:
They turn an expensive top line winger into a top 3D and a versatile C/RW who provides the same defensive upside as Marner and has also scored 40 goals recently. Lindholm could be a long term 2nd line C as Tavares ages and who knows what happens with Matthews. The Leafs also take a calculated risk that Markstrom had an off year like many of the Flames and will bounce back. If Markstrom does bounce back the Leafs will have finally solidified the net. Hanifin would be the Leafs 1st or 2nd best Dman depending on what you think of Reilly these days. Moving the Marner money lines up the Leafs to keep Lindholm, Nylander, and Matthews. If Matthews wants out they can roll Lindholm-Tavares and still be competitive.

We already had huge turnover I think some trades around the edges and inserting young players will make a difference.
Obviously better coaching allowing stars to be stars will make a significant difference as well.

That would be right up there with Gilmour for Leeman IMO.
The team needs cheap young skilled players to complement its expensive old guys and mid priced 25-30 year olds. The financial aspects of this roster are terrible. New GM has to fix that and create a talent pipeline. The upcoming UFAs represents an opportunity to do that as early as this draft. You’d be trading the two best ones for Marner. Yuck!
Huby, Marky and Kadri have to accept roles as vets on a rebuild.

The Flames should be trading in UFAs for picks and prospects and trying to see if they can find any suckers to take on some of these horrible contracts. Sacrificing the future for this group is pointless. They tried and it didn't work. Don't make it worse. Right now the teams best route is to hope a new coach can get them playing half decent and that is enough to make the playoffs. Some of these guys should bounce back you'd hope. Be happy with playoffs and minimize the future problems trying to win now. That boat has sailed. This isnt the group you go all in with, even if you're pot committed right now. Toffoli, Lindholm, Hanifin, Mangiapane, Backlund, are all guys I'd consider moving. Bring in pieces that can be part of the next iteration of the Flames.

Is Lindholm the Leeman? Because I'd much rather have Marner than a pending UFA Lindholm, especially while getting Markstrom off the books.
Completely unrealistic, though.

The Leafs should be looking to trade Matthews while they can. No way he's signing another contract in Canada, IMO.

If a new GM can pull off that heist he would immediately be the best GM in the Flames history and a top 5 GM in the league.

I hear you and Marner is a fun player, but in my scenario Marner is the Leeman. Not because he is bad like Leeman, but because he is the wrong move for the Flames right now.
Because for one skilled player that probably doesn’t move the needle on this team, you’d be giving up the future Flames stars scouting would find us with the picks we’d get for these ‘last year of awesome contract top UFAs.’ We are talking a 1B centre and first pair Dman on sweet contracts, we should bring in a haul. In this draft there are lots of players I’d like to see on the Flames from 15-60.
If we’d just haul in picks this draft and let our amazing scouts take care of the rest we could be 2-3 years away from being in the hunt, after what would likely be another fun rebuild (the last one was AWESOME).

IMO, you move anyone else over 30 before Lindholm, don't really care how. You roll with Lindy as the guy you keep. I don't see how it can be any other way. Backs is 6 years his senior, he's going to regress sooner than later, Kadri is just, I lost a lot of faith in him this past season, I'd pay Kotalik prices to move on from that contract.
Lindholm is the perfect Center to bridge the old core to the next core.
