I’ve wanted Gudas on the Flames since his Philly days.

He wasn't terrible, because he's positionally almost always great. But he doesn't offer that two way game anymore to move the puck up the ice, and on a Leafs team who relies on offence, I think limiting Gio's minutes was the right call.

And the 1967 cup moves one year closer to passing out of living memory. Life expectancy in Ontario ~82.

Youngest person who actually recalls seeing it now 60 years of age.

If by decent you mean one of the best players in the world then yeah lol. Gio won the Norris in 2019. But age is catching up fast and after getting smoked by Maroon in first round he didn't look the same.

Brodie is what he is, a top 4 guy who the Leafs play like a top two.

Yes, he should retire now

He was a great Flames but that’s a long time ago

Brodie was never great but some people thought he was. Tanev is a much better player. Signed Tanev instead of Brodie was one of the better moves by Treliving.

Selective outrage again
I thought I heard Maclean mention this was unsportsmanlike last night
But
If you go back and watch the play in real time, it looks to me like Gudas was just celebrating the goal. Looking “through” Woll. To me, this photo is just a brief moment that doesn’t tell the whole story

Probably, I don’t think a professional would stoop that low but who knows

Kind of like how some Canadians refer to all Americans as yankees. Can’t imagine a true southerner considering themselves a yankee.
Okay, but there aren't any teams in the PAC division that are 'southern', so the only way would be for NAS or DAL to come through the wildcard

Always have to be careful with the screenshots. They get the exact moment and angle to tell the narrative they went.

Reminds me of the pic after Argentina won the world cup and players looked to be mocking the French.
Then you see the zoomed out photo and they're all looking at their bench.

Yeah, if I was to bet, he’s looking at the puck in the net, and not actually focused on Woll at all. I mean, it doesn’t even look like Woll is looking at him, but rather off to the left.

If Sutter was Toronto's coach they could wi⅘n the cup. Toronto iwas perfect team if they players follow Sutter.
Elite talent in F and great D group that cam play Sutter hockey.

Toronto didn't go down without a fight, but the Panthers are just too hot. They're so opportunistic with turnovers and their finishing has been great. Also, their ability to stand up plays at the offensive blueline and keep the pressure on was impressive. With Bobrovsky playing like he is, they're going to be a very tough to beat.

Tkachuk wasn’t even the star of this series. Bobrovsky was probably their number one star of the series, and I would say even Bennett was more impactful than Tkachuk most games. They won this series on goaltending and depth, and keeping the Leafs' big names off the scoresheet.

Sad for Gio. Would have loved to see him keep going. He's clearly still a smart and driven player, but his play is matching the grey in his beard a bit. Hopefully he gets one more kick at the can next year. From undrafted to Norris winner with a stretch of play in Russia in-between is already an amazing story, but it would be even better if it were capped off with a cup win into retirement.

That is not remotely what a Sutter successful team composes of. Austin Matthews would score 12 goals playing for Sutter. Sutter hockey is perimeter low danger shots with big hulks and physical players in front of the net.

I would say your top 3 players not really producing the entire series is the definition of 'going down without a fight.'

Toronto woke up today with the realization that they have $30 million tied up in 3 players that can't produce at a higher level come playoff time.

Not sure how they'll solve that problem.

It probably isn't an option because of age and contract cost but Tavares is a huge anchor that needs to go in order for Toronto to make big improvements. He's not providing $11M in on ice value but I don't think any team would be crazy enough to take him from TO (I'm also not sure if he would actually accept a trade.)
