Seems like it might be another interesting trivia...he must be the youngest oldest guy in the league in quite a long time? He'll turn 40 around puck drop in the fall.
Between Chara, Thornton and Jagr alone it's probably been a decade (though there were definitely other 40+). Looks like Chelios retired a couple years before Jagr turned 40...pretty sure Recchi and Lidstrom bridged that gap, and then Chelios takes it all the way back to 2001 or so, when Bourque and Larionov were both 40. Too lazy to go back any further.
If they could, the Leafs would probably move on from Tavares, but with one more year, I'm sure he'll be back. So that leaves one of Marner or Nylander out. Do they sell high on Nylander who seemed to do alright towards the end? Do they sell low on Marner? They have some tough calls to make. At this time I think they'll make some changes to the supporting cast and wind it back again with the core one last time. Again, on the 4th line they had a grinder to create chaos down low, in Simmonds, but they didn't use him and went for skill instead. I think they were wrong on that last game to make that decision. Simmonds was useless regular reason but is exactly what they needed against Florida specifically.
If they desperately want to move on from Taveras, I would welcome a move to bring him here if lindholm really won't sign. How do they feel about Kadri along with vladar?

How long before there is a Canadian Division where a Canadian team is effectively guaranteed a conference final berth? The NHL is really eating the seed corn here.

The only thing is Tavares has a NMC and I can’t see him waiving to come to Calgary.
Just saw the rielly non goal. That's an awful call.
It only went in when Bob got up because the play was dead. You can literally see the bottom of his pad push it across the line and his skate pull it back out... but all from the act of him standing up.
If a goalie makes a save and then drops it in the net after the play is dead, it's not a goal.

As a Flames fan, god I've love to, but there's no way the Leafs are stupid enough to make Kadri part of their core going forward at that crazy salary and the length associated. That was a dumb Flames move then and now to treat him as a franchise player. Leafs have been very very responsible under Dubas for ensuring only the franchise players get long term deals, with secondary guys getting slightly less. They really don't have anyone signed long term off the top where they're stuck with for the long haul. Guys like Campbell or Hyman and others who've reached their FA status, they've walked away from.
The Leafs didn't score 3 goals in a game after game 4 vs the lightning. Crazy for a team "built to score"
Honestly I think they should have stopped after the ROR-Acciari trade.
Sandin and Engvall were depth pieces that helped the Leafs maybe more than I think they were given credit for and I think overall they just made too many changes at the deadline.
Roster never really clicked.
And honestly I'd probably be pissed if that GWG was against the Flames...easily a bit of interference by Gudas on the play. But that's OT in NHL playoff hockey I guess
