This isn't that.

This is a guy that put up 22 points in 20 games for them in the cup run missing two full seasons including the playoffs this year, and potentially never playing against based on other players that had the same surgery.

I think Colorado would much rather have a healthy Gabriel Landeskog at $7M right now, and this isn't some type of LTIR scheme.

This is a rare recent example where LTIR would be used as it was supposed to be. There's no grey area here with the contract or the injury.

Boy there are some truly jaded and callous responses here.

This isn't about cap hit. This may be the moment that you see a great player's career end early. Nobody is missing 2 seasons and a current playoff run just to alleviate a team's cap situation. Anyone missing that amount of time is probably worried they'll never be able to play again, or at least play at the level they were accustomed to.

The joke was funny with Kucherov because it did seem a little convenient, but saying this every time a star player is out long term is getting pretty old. Come up with some new material.

I am guessing that this is a fairly new type of surgery and there is a good chance that there have been improvements to the process since Methot had his surgery.
Hopefully it works out and he is back on the ice for the 24-25 season.

Landeskog is a bit younger, and a better player than Methot was, but I think there is a real chance Landeskog's career is over.
