I didn’t know you could use a cartilage transplant to cure cap space.

Sounds like he will be a future Arizona Coyote unfortunately.

This isn't that.
This is a guy that put up 22 points in 20 games for them in the cup run missing two full seasons including the playoffs this year, and potentially never playing against based on other players that had the same surgery.
I think Colorado would much rather have a healthy Gabriel Landeskog at $7M right now, and this isn't some type of LTIR scheme.

This is a rare recent example where LTIR would be used as it was supposed to be. There's no grey area here with the contract or the injury.

Lol putting your captain and integral piece of your team on LTIR for a year as a way to game the system. Shrewd move.

Let alone one who took a discount compared to what he could have got elsewhere.

I am guessing that he will never come back as good as he was, this is likely a career limiting ending type of situation.

Boy there are some truly jaded and callous responses here.
This isn't about cap hit. This may be the moment that you see a great player's career end early. Nobody is missing 2 seasons and a current playoff run just to alleviate a team's cap situation. Anyone missing that amount of time is probably worried they'll never be able to play again, or at least play at the level they were accustomed to.
The joke was funny with Kucherov because it did seem a little convenient, but saying this every time a star player is out long term is getting pretty old. Come up with some new material.

You never know...Teemu Selanne once said that the lockout saved his career for a couple years by allowing his body time to heal...so...it could work out.
Although I do agree that losing two seasons, wrong side of 30, the most likely outcome does appear to be LTIRetirement.
At some point the human element has to come in to play. You won your Cup, you made your money, do you want to be using a walker at 40?

I am guessing that this is a fairly new type of surgery and there is a good chance that there have been improvements to the process since Methot had his surgery.
Hopefully it works out and he is back on the ice for the 24-25 season.

The losing side of 25 actually.

The league has invited this on themselves- when you indulge the Mickey Mousery, don’t be shocked that you’re viewed as a cartoon.

I wonder if it would be best for Landeskog to walk away from the game while he still has his health

Landeskog is a bit younger, and a better player than Methot was, but I think there is a real chance Landeskog's career is over.

I saw a picture of Marc Methot's wife recently. Congratulations to Marc on his retirement.

Yeah, he has won a cup already and made enough money to have a comfortable life after retirement.

Tough to walk without knees!!
No, but jokes aside he might as well get medical care while its still on an NHL team's dime.

Sure, we save $10.5M in cap space, get our from under a terrible contract, and get a very good marketable asset.
The reliable younger, cheaper, better trade.
