This is their D depth:
Denton Mateychuk
Stanislav Svozil
Corson Ceulemans
David Jiricek
Adam Boqvist
Nick Blankenburg
I doubt they even think of trading Jircek/Mateychuk but I think any of the others could be available.

I'm high on Svozil. He looked great at the WJC and reminds me a lot of Andersson - i.e. future top pairing/all situations dman that isn't highly athletically gifted (relatively speaking), but is a highly intelligent player

No 2nd in 2025
What would you be looking at from the Avs that would make the most sense?
Byram - Lindholm swap of some sort?
Looking at forwards, if you want younger that list is small:
Newhook
Sampo Ranta
Foudy
Olausson
|
I would look at something around Byram and Newhook for Lindholm and a 2023 3rd? Helps the Flames get younger, Avs have a glut at defense although I'm guessing they would want to include Girard instead of Byram.
Getting a young Dman from the Avs allows us to look at moving Hanifin or more top young prospects and picks.

Send a pick with Hanifin and get Sillinger and Jiricek
Hanifin+2023 2nd for Cole Sillinger+David Jiricek
Or go big and send Hanifin+Lindholm for Cole Sillinger+David Jiricek+Jack Roslovic+2023 2nd

I dont think Columbus does that.
Jiricek is likely untouchable.

Id be looking at offloading Kadri to the Avs.
You won't get much but i'd be ok. You got a year of him and it cost your a 1st.
Alternatively, I could see Lindy for Newhook + Girard + 1st.
Regarding Hanifin and Columbus, I'd be trying to get LAK 1st + Young Player (Boqvist) or a prospect (Ceulemans/Svozil)

23rd (LAK 1st)
34th (CBJ 2nd)
66th (CBJ 3rd)
I think this gives Columbus the defenceman they're after, and also gives the Flames a quick reload of youth into the system.
The defence then goes:
Weegar - Andersson
Kylintgon - Tanev
Zadorov - Stetcher/Etc
Gilbert
It gives the Flames a chance to compete because they believe they're a very good team, while also addressing one of the worst prospect pools in the league. This move cuts the cap they need to cut.
It gives the Blue Jackets the young defenceman that they need to help bolster that position at a cost that seems fairly tolerable from their perspective.
Noah signs a big extension and joins Gudbranson and Gaudreau in Columbus.

Treliving special. A first and two seconds for a D (almost).
Only real difference is both Hamilton and Hamonic were under control. Hanifin, less so.
Like the deal in principle, though.

One of the few trades on here that seems somewhat reasonable. I think Hanifin would need an extension to get 3 picks though.
Leaves our D in “good enough” shape. I would also try to get a couple mid round picks for Vladar as well. Bring in 5 draft picks and backfill Hanifin and Vladar with Kylington and Wolf.
Weegar - Andersson
Kylington - Tanev
Zadorov - Stecher
Stone
Markstrom
Wolf

Yeah I would imagine Hanifin then signs an 8 year extension ($7M AAV?) deal with the Blue Jackets. That then really "stabilizes" their current build of their roster in my eyes. They're loaded prospects, loaded with top-end talent. I think they'd become a big time team in the East.
For Vladar? 2025 3rd round pick + 2023 5th round pick from Buffalo? I don't think that's a bad trade for either side.
If you do those two trades, the Flames would then draft:
1st round: x2
2nd round: x2
3rd round: x1
4th round: x1
5th round: x1
6th round: x1
7th round: x1
The Flames then just have to figure out what they're doing with Lindholm and Backlund...

I think you've nailed it. Girard is the guy they would move. He's been in trade rumors for a long time. Byram I doubt they move. Health problems but such massive upside and he's so good when in the line up.

I wouldn't be opposed to a deal around Girard and Newhook. Again gives flexibility to go after some higher-level offensive talent with Hanifin.

He's 28 now, 29 by the end of next season. He'll be looking to get max term for sure. Do we really want to be investing in another pricey post-apex player? I wouldn't say so. I say cash in now for future assets from a team that needs him for a solid run next year and let him be their problem.

Letting the Avs add Lindholm without subtracting from their current top 6 would literally be handing them another Cup. That's a lot of depth to give up, but if I was MacFarland I'd be tempted.

Not sure it is a slam dunk for them, they have a lot of RFA's/UFA's and of course Landeskog is gone for the year. Also not sure of the status of Nichuskin after his recent issues. I would like a deal like this, and if i'm the Avs the 1st is irrelevant since they could offload Lindholm at the deadline if it goes badly to easily recover the 1st.

Sutter leaving still doesn’t change my thoughts on trading Backlund, Lindholm and Tanev. We’ve gotta start accumulating young prospects/picks going forward on these expiring contracts.

Girard is only 24 years old, which is shocking. You just know he would come here wanting to show something, after being somewhat buried in Colorado.

It also wasn't obvious that Lindholm seeming dissatisfied had anything to do with Sutter. It could have easily been more about the personnel changes around him, which doesn't get fixed just because Sutter is gone now. If he intends to walk after the season, he should be traded before the season even begins.

I could see Boston being interested in Lindy. They may want to go for it again, but they have some UFAs going out, and it looks like Bergeron is retiring. Lindholm would be a nice replacement.

Why do we want Girard?
He is literally the last type of player we need.
A smaller lefthanded #3-5 dman. Moving our top line center for that being the main piece is a disaster.
