APEGA in general grinds my gears (or used to, I got over it I suppose). When I graduated from university and joined as an MIT they gladly took my dues every year. When I had my experience I bought all their books and wrote the ethics exam (and passed). Applied for membership and all of a sudden non of my experience counted for anything, they gave me zero credit. That was the end of APEGA for me, I didn't need it for work anyway.

Yikes.
Depends on what it is you do, I suppose. I work in an industry that has very specific requirements for work to be authenticated by a P.Eng., so it was easy for me to gain relevant experience.
Being an MIT is somewhat pointless though, that much I agree about. One of my former direct reports graduated a couple years ago and quite pointedly asked me what the benefits of being an EIT were, and I told him the truth: notionally it's a little easier to get your professional licence because they'll have you in the system and you'll have already proven all the prerequisites for professional membership except experience, but you don't have to be an EIT if you don't want to.

I had to sit in on the APEGA AGM last week. More than a few angry members wanting to know why the fees going up for no apparent reason.

I only pay because the dues are more than offset by the insurance savings I get with The Personal. Maybe I can shop around and find a similar price without using APEGA but that is a bit of work that I don't want to do.
My previous employer had a corporate discount with The Personal and I reached out to them to see which offer might be better and APEGA was about $700 cheaper so after the $400 in dues I'm still ahead $300.

Reading the anti-oilers crap on here is such a tribal pathetic embarrassing joke. If flames aren't going to win, I absolutely hope the oilers do. Why wouldn't I want a city three hours away from us filled with fellow Albertans to enjoy a big celebration? Glad I'll never be such a total dick to think that way.

"Total dick" lol. It's about being a loyal fan Sliver. You don't get it. You've said as much. Honestly, you should get a temporary ban for saying you hope the Oilers win. You go too far, sir.

You're calling us fans total dooshes? That would be excessive. Even for a guy that doesn't understand sports.

Oiler fans are so gross!
OMG, what I'm about to say is so gross...maybe everyone knows this, but I just read about it.
I was at somebody's house a couple days ago and it stunk like the Oilers. I was wondering how they couldn't notice. Now, to be clear, not everyone who is an Oiler fan has a stinky house, but many do. Anyway, apparently people go noseblind to the stench, which I guess I knew because we're all noseblind to the smell of our own house. The big revelation is what causes a house to smell like an Oiler fan. So Oiler fans have glands in their anus that produce a putrid (to me) smell. When they wear their jerseys, they're fanning that fataing smell around so it wafts all over the place. And people choose to live in that smell. Wtf!
Anyway, please feel free to share your stories and observations about Oiler fan nutters' obsession with these foul creatures.

Yesterday was a real treat for driving here in Calgary. On the overpass where you go from Crowfoot south to Glenmore east, a guy came to a sudden stop. Bunch of people nearly caused a pile up. His dog got loose and he roughly shoved the poor thing back in his truck. He drives off and his trailer, with a tree and other yard ####, is peppering peoples cars with branches and #### at high speed. I'm sure at least one person got a chipped windshield from this prick.
Later at superstore I parked with my daughter in one of the reserved call and pick up spaces. I don't give a #### , #### Galon Weston. When I get back in my van and I'm loading groceries, this nutter of a woman is across from me (parked in a family parking spot mind you, and she was alone and not pregnant looking) starts yelling at me that I'm in a reserved space for "PC express members" before I can say anything, a guy in a jeep, my spirit animal, told her "mind your own business you ####ing bitch". Harsh and probably could have gone without the profanity, but, seriously. Mind your own business. Am I asking you if your pregnant? No who ####ing cares. It always amazes me that people are willing to pick fights with total strangers in parking lots. What if I was an unhinged lunatic that decided to walk over and get in her face? I won't say #### to people in a parking lot for this reason, some day you might yell at a moron with a gun or someone willing to throw hands over a parking space. ####ing insane.

Is there a better word to describe somebody who wants to rob joy from an entire city in our province?

This is an example where air quotes help your statement.
Is there a better word to describe somebody who wants to rob joy from an entire "city" in our province?

After coming up short in '04, an Oilers cup in '06 would of been a complete implosion of the hockey universe for us. Thankfully, the Carolina Hurricanes saved us. Flames fans owe the Canes a debt we can never repay.
Watching them lose in game seven, I felt a great disturbance, as if millions of Oilers suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. It was beyond delicious. I have nothing to cheer for but hatred in these playoffs. It flows through me.

I only keep my designation because my company pays for it and I can get the required CPD hours by just doing my job and associated work. If they came calling with some issues with my “work type” I’d just drop the designation. I’d say about half I know that do a similar job as me had dropped it that I know of.
