I am truly at a loss for words with Darryl and this season, if these things are true. He is demanding but he was a coach who matched lines and created good practice habits that would carry over to games. What the heck was going on.
|
I think that isn't true. I have heard they did in fact practice the PP, they did not practice 3 on 3.

Frank Seravelli on the Barnburner podcast said that a player told him they didn't practice the PP.

I almost wonder if something is going on with Sutter. He's a cheeky bastard but this year seemed almost belligerent. Is he sick or something? Bizarre behavior, even for him.

I'm pretty sure Seravalli misspoke and meant 3 on 3. They definitely practiced the PP.

Not practicing the PP.
Playing with players heads.
Favoring vets over young players.
Was Sutter really Keenan in disguise all this time?

Not sure what Servalli is talking about. There have been numerous times PP lines have been reported at practice by media attending.

I honestly feel a lot more optimistic about the future of the team after listening to Maloney’s presser. I was refreshing hearing him talk about needed young guys on ELC and playing them more than 6-7 minutes a night

What we have before us is a mystery box. We don't know if it will be good or bad but what we have now is mehhhh. So, actually a mystery box has room for optimism. It could be anything, even a team that finishes 9th in the west. :P

Almost all opinion and little factual content.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Is it really a pressure cooker at this point? Expectations will be low next season - especially if Backlund and Lindholm leave.

His player usage, practicing the OT & PP, relying more on the youth....none of those are big changes. Hell most of his success came with young teams (04 in Calgary and the two Kings cup teams) but he just really seemed dead set on "my way or the highway" and it's what led to a lot of tension and really both him and Treliving not having jobs right now.

I know lots of old people like this. Maybe Sutter just got old. Like he still has his knowledge, but emotionally IQ just isn't there anymore.
I notice this at places of work a lot too. In labour economics, I used to joke that the reason firms retire people at 65 is because everyone else would quit if they didn't.

For the people considering Brunette, is it just because of his prior history on the Panthers and specifically Huberdeau? I just remember him taking over for Q and the team not missing a beat, which is in some ways good but also bad.

Yeah something is up and its not making sense.
He has always been rough and tumble but it just seemed like a half hearted effort from him this year and was extra rough to be around.
The things that made him an elite coach disappeared. Defensive structure and line matching his two calling cards as a coach was missing all season long.
Kind of goes back to the playoffs against Edmonton when he said matching lines is to hard in todays game.

Agreed, think you nailed it. Everyone also keeps talking about highly intelligent he is, etc.
But how intelligent are you, if you cannot prioritize your ego below what’s best for the team?

To be fair Treliving apprenticed under Maloney so we are simply getting it straight from the origin now.
