I'm a bit surprised as well. I mean, it had to happen, but giving him a 2 year extension at $8M, and then firing him before it even kicks in, is a tough business move.

The downside to this is that they will likely be looking to not spend too much on the replacement. Maybe that means Mitch Love, which would be a good choice in my knowledge-less opinion.

Had to happen given the contracts Kadri and Huberdeau signed. Really hope they promote Mitch Love after the calder cup run.

If not he'll move on to another NHL team and do extremely well. It's part of being a Flames fan.

I did not know that. Serious?

Needed to be done, but I can't help but feel for Darryl.

I was hoping they could have amicably agreed to him stepping back into a consulting role or something like that.

He's done a lot for this franchise, and to be recruited out of retirement only to be fired two years later..it's an unfortunate ending. He didn't need this gig.

Yeah that was mentioned and it's pretty evident that Treliving's issues were deeper than just the coach. I think even with Sutter out of the picture he was simply tired of working under the constraints of Edwards.

I'm certain this is the players doing.

Hopefully the players step up now but we may never know if they aren't willing to extend this summer.

Kinda sad. Sutter seemed like one of the few Flames who actually likes Calgary. Would have been awesome to see him get redemption for 2004.

Hopefully the next coach lasts longer than 2 years but that seems unlikely.

I don't actually hate Darryl, but this firing was well deserved. He wanted to be the guy responsible for it all, and when it doesn't go well, the buck stops here.

Good luck Darryl and thanks for the good things you did while you were here. I hope you enjoy the ranch life.

How do you do it? Crystal ball?

Wonder if this changes Lindholm and Backlund's thoughts on their futures?

I think this is good. Now to find a coach that will give young players a fair shake and also get the most out of our 10.5 million dollar man.

Good. Whatever the heck happened this year needs to go away. Now I fully expect some really massive 0layer turn over too.

Gonna be a purge.

I'm totally fine with Love as the organization has a better read on him than any up and coming coach outside the organization and it would make for a seamless transition for some rookies.
