Although I dislike the UCP, there is no frikkin way I vote NDP. So, ya the bribes are good. Cheers.

Wow. They even made the City pay for their own lube.

I try not to wish harm on people but I'm seriously considering an exception for Danielle Smith.

I guess if fiscal conservatism is truly dead they might as well start pissing away cash.

Edwards is going to be tying one on tonight!

As clearly denoted by the Premier herself, the province isn't actually contributing to the Event Centre it's self. Yeah, I don't see how the NDP (if elected) would back out of this deal. The deal is for infrastructure from the provincial perspective.

So we know the UCP will get the approvals, and I can't imagine a world where the NDP would want to wear the hat of the government that lost Calgary the Flames - so I'd expect them to get the approvals.

So the timing of this effectively (in my mind) guarantees that this deal will actually happen regardless of government in place.

...and if not, then yeah...darkest timeline.

I don't even mean this critically, but very wisely, all the parties involved have "expanded the scope" of this project to make the old deal and this one not apples to apples. It's the Costco strategy at play, no other store sells the exact same thing we do (it's always slightly different) so you can't truly compare.

Legitimately added a community rink to play to play the community angle, and then coupled in all sort of infrastructure items (that I guess would have happened anyway) to make it seem more inclusive and prevents any finger pointing on if the old deal was better.

Fairly smart approach from a pure PR perspective for all parties involved.

It does hurt when billionaires are the ones who benefit, but the sad reality is is that they always are. Look who gained all the wealth during Covid. It's simply the way our economic system works and it's almost impossible to prevent because they will always have options elsewhere like moving to London, setting up off shore accounts, investing in other jurisdictions, etc. If we don't provide government funding, the team could easily find a home elsewhere and it would be way worse for tax payers and the citizens than the 500+M investment they'll provide for this.
Let's be honest, number one is the only reason. Number three doesn't make sense. The economic benefit isn't know and probably isn't much.

UCP is in a promise everything for after the election mode. What they will or won't follow through with is the mystery and probably has more to do with whose pockets they can stuff with public money.

Can't take their commitments all that seriously... but not taking the UCP seriously should be what everyone does by default.

Wait till he sees how much the lease costs and conditions etc etc etc.
He don't own the joint so he'll have little to say.

More details to come.
