the rebuild part, yes. The Sutter part, no - Maloney said everything was going to be reviewed. Just my gut feeling that there's not going to be a change.

Eric Francis seemed adamant that Sutter was now staying, but not sure how much value that opinion has.

Rebuild is a confirmed no-no word...Sutter staying next year was not guaranteed.

Was now staying? Or was not staying?

I think a lot of people probably saw it as Sutter or Treliving. So when it was Treliving that said he was leaving on Wednesday then it seemed like Sutter was staying.
But if what the poster here is saying is true and ownership was open to firing Sutter then I don't think it's cut and dry at this point.
The 2 years and rumored $8M on that deal though always made it more likely he'd be back. But really it will come down to what the players said in the meeting's on Friday and whatever the new GM thinks (be it Conroy or somebody else).
Personally I actually think going to a younger GM as mentioned by Malroney, and then keeping Sutter would be a mistake. Let the young GM have a clean slate with the roster, and a coach that doesn't maybe carry the baggage that Sutter has with these players right now.

Bean did say he isn't supposed to say the word rebuild, but he later said a rebuild is a point in time discussion as they had a futures deal they considered for Tkachuk. So they were at least considering a rebuild option.

John Bean should never again speak to the media/fans. We now know why we've really never heard from him before.

Oh, no rebuild?
*loads his season ticket holder cancellation email*
I'm watching now. Maloney seems sincere and well spoken.
Also, very clearly this organization just hired whoever was around because Bean doesn't know a !@#$ing thing about running a professional sports team.

They said they will analyze all the failures and reasons that why they missed playoff.
But main problem is the key players want out so it will need player changes anyway.
I hope they make trades for future than replacement of those leaving.

To me this reeks of Treliving proposing for a...different way of doing business, and Bean and Edwards rejecting it.

Agreed. By all accounts, Bean is simply the numbers guy. Still makes it even weirder to me that Edwards himself couldn't have been here.

Until he's fired he's still the head coach of the Flames and good luck on Maloney trying to tell Edwards that they should let Darryl go with $8 million left on his contract. I kind of wonder if Edwards will simply instruct the GM to get rid of all the players that don't like Sutter.

Holy dip, John Bean is giving me the strongest "Oilers South" circa 2009 vibe I've ever felt.
"We have a good team"
Nope. You're disconnected from reality. Wonderful.

From Friedman:
Quote:
Treliving and the Flames “mutually agreed to part ways” on Monday, five days after their last game of a disappointing 2022-23. Don Maloney, now President of Hockey Operations and interim GM, said Treliving first indicated last Wednesday he was leaving. It is believed a deteriorating relationship with Sutter played a major role in the GM’s decision, that the two could not continue working together and really hadn’t communicated well in some time. If Sutter didn’t have an extension, maybe the outcome is different.
Several sources indicated they believed Sutter will return as head coach, but proclaiming anything as rock-solid is premature.
“I am reviewing everything,” Maloney replied.
There is some internal surprise Treliving chose to leave, so it remains to be seen how it all plays out.
The Flames wanted someone in place if this happened, that’s why there was talk last week Maloney and Craig Conroy had been extended. This is confirmation of at least one of them, and Conroy’s might be dependent on becoming GM. He’s waited a long time for that opportunity, and there is organizational support for him.
I think there was hope that some of this commentary — undoubtedly more pointed behind the scenes — would sway the organization into making a change behind the bench.
The Flames had factions this year, which included player-versus-player. That happens when your season doesn’t go how you wanted or expected. The priority must be injecting youth into the roster and making Jonathan Huberdeau work. Some of that is on the player, but it’s also on the environment around him.

If that's how Treliving felt about working with Sutter, I can't imagine how the guys who have to put up with him on a daily basis in the dressing room feel.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. They even indicated that it was Treliving's choice.

Bean couldn't bring himself to be honest like that. He tried to spin the parting as mutual when it was clearly Brad's decision to leave the organization. The fact is, Treliving would still be the GM if he wanted the job and that leaves this a non-mutual decision.
Honesty is the best choice, and only one man was able to display that today. Today, I've learned that I do not like Mr. Bean, and that's something I never imagined I'd say.
