If it is largely a financial decision, the team’s focus should be finding ways to get maximum value from the $10.5m and $7m assets that they have for the better part of the next decade.

Best of luck Brad I hope you go to an organization that doesn't have a coach with a giant ego always trying to impose his will on you.

LOL...Assuming this is even true, Brad had years to go get coaches he wanted and his choices were terrible.

And in all this mess, spare a thought for Chris Snow, and the what-might-have beens for him, had ALS not stolen his shot.

We can't find a better GM than Treliving? Please. His track record with the Flames is just a longer carbon copy of his tenure with the Coyotes. Despite what some here think, he's going to have a hell of a time getting another GM gig. I foresee him taking another Assistant GM role when this becomes clear.

Truly that's not a state of mind I want to be in as a fan. It sounds bad. I hope for better, but this isn't fun to watch. It isn't fun to follow.
But maybe caring less about the Flames, whether they win, whether they get a new building - maybe it's best if I just don't care anymore.

Of course they do. You may not like how they are doing it, at all, but they care and want to win.

Hitting on the fact that the top teams are built on players drafted by that organization.

Pleasantly surprised to see Leslie say this in his position. Refreshing.

Players wanting out, GM wanting out, oldest arena in the league with no news on a new one, a meddling impatient owner who doesn't want to spend on the front office. This is trending towards dumpster fire territory.

Crazy how it was 90% bad goaltending that destroyed this team...they should have had well over 100 points. Hire Conroy and pray Wolf makes the leap.

Want to win cups or want to win enough to get into the playoffs now and then? There’s a chasm of difference between the two

How can it get worse?
Remember when the Flyers traded multiple pieces including a 1st round pick for Ristolainen? Or when the Canucks traded a high 1st for OEL?
Now, imagine what mistakes can make as an organization that thinks anything can happen if they squeak into the playoffs when they currently have all of their 1st round picks and a bottom third prospect pool?
If you think things can't get any worse, you aren't imaging hard enough.
|
Maybe we have a different idea of "worse" then. Philly has a guaranteed top 10 pick and an outside but not unrealistic shot at bedard. While Risto looks like a dog's breakfast skating at a peak 25km/h, they at least have some hope of improving through the draft. Funny you picked Risto though as our management group (including Tre) wanted to trade for him until Chris Snow shut that down.
To me the worst outcome is if things stay as they are. No realistic playoff chance and no good draft pick to bolster the prospect pool. No hope to improve and no shot at the cup. Woof.

I must have missed where it was said Treliving had the authority to fire Sutter.
Was this said today somewhere?

This is not the way I wanted things to play out but at least at some level change is coming. If the rumours are true that a bunch of players want out then so be it. You're not going to win if the players are not fully invested. I'm hoping Conroy gets a shot as he's definitely put in the time as an AGM. I wouldn't expect this time to be competing anytime soon but hopefully they can acquire some picks and prospects that give some hope towards the future.

That's not to say I think the world of Treliving. I think he is an average (maybe above average) GM, who is good at some things in the role and not so good at others.
I anticipate the Flames to make the wrong choice here.
|
I am fairly confident Maloney is capable of hiring someone average or above average. But you're not. Convince me I'm wrong, because I honestly don't see it. His body of work with the Coyotes is the best stretch of history they have in any recent timeline and he advocated for a lot of the same things people are dying for this franchise to do. So, why is he worse?
You wanted a rebuild, right? In what world do you think Treliving would have given you one?

I'm happy there is change. Status quo wasn't getting it done.

Leslie on a rebuild:
"It's not in their future"
but believes it may be upon them, and the fact that they aren't planning for it is scary - believes that they need to be planned to be successful.

Main problem here is what the heck is this organization? Old crappy building, no GM at the moment, a coach that is either loved or hated, no real cap room, no young studs, no super stars, no blue chip prospects, no plethora of draft picks.
In the span of about 2 years we became the NHL's least desirable location for NHL players. It doesn't help that 2 hours North of us they have a new building and a bonafide generational talent.
The Flames are a franchise without direction, both literally and figuratively. I'd say its a crappy time to be a Flames fan but when isn't it?
Everything hinges on this next GM...
