Moving on from Tre should have signaled a complete revamping of hockey operations.

We have a meddling ownership group, in a non desirable small Canadian market, that has the worst facilities in the sport. The outlook is incredibly bleak at the moment.
It seems more like Treliving moved on, not the Flames.

I doubt he is allowed. Edwards and Sutter are thick as thieves. They will steal all of the joy out of cheering for this team.

I'm not super sad Treliving is gone. He seems like a quality person and ran the Flames with class so I wish him the best, but 9 years is a long time and the results weren't there.

If Sutter falters again next year then let him go and bring up Love. Seems like an easy road to follow.

For as much flack as Francis gets (often deservedly so) he's really the only non-sycophant for the org and asks tough questions.

I mean, the rest of the Fan crew is completely devoid of critical thinking in terms of the org's moves. After the season Pat was more critical but held the line all season. Someone like Wills is unlistenable regarding the organization.

So what are the odds Treliving has a “wink wink nudge nudge” job already lined up for himself?

You’re missing the bigger picture. There is no new architect. We already know who it is and it’s Murray Edwards. The status quo moving forward will be the same.

I think Francis just said he already heard from multiple people that they want the GM job?

I wouldn't be surprised if Treliving was just sick of dealing with Edwards in general, and even being able to fire Sutter might not have been enough to keep him here at this point.

(And to be clear I don't blame Edwards for meddling, if I owned a hockey team I would meddle too. Hell I'd probably just Jerry Jones it and name myself GM. But I do think that meddling does make the GM's job harder)
That's totally fair. Serious question, where does the meddling owners theories really come from with this team? I ask because I've never really heard any credible media type source (like Friedman) talk about it with the Flames, like I have with other orgs, like say Vancouver.

Doesn't mean I haven't missed it, very possible. But it just seems to me it's only fans on here that bring it up, and it seems to be a far more re-occurring topic when we have a very polarizing topic like arena funding surfacing. Are there any legs to it really? Is it just perspective? Because any owner is going to have some interest and say in what goes on. I just haven't really heard much about the Calgary ownership group being very hands on from anywhere other than CPers when they are complaining about the season.

I do wonder if perhaps he was unwilling to come back with Sutter behind the bench, and the organization was unwilling to fire Sutter.
If you consider the number of issues he has to contend with in this market, then you will understand why some here think he did a remarkable job. Francis alone was talking on Friday about how a number of Flames players went to Tkachuk's home in Florida, just off the beach, when they visited. We suddenly have some players who are non-committal to resigning. How does Calgary compete with that?

So how would it have been better if Treliving stayed then? So all the people here moaning about this really want Edwards gone -- good luck with that.

Of course, there are only 32 of those jobs. Everyone but Treliving wants this job

I think pretty low. I’d bet Treliving didn’t even decide until they missed the POs.

I was ok with a change.... but like you said above this ain't any change. It's the same old #### with the same old meddling owner and same old hated coach.

I just tuned in too - sounds like him and Leslie were just speculating on names. Francis mentioned Lombardi but doesn't think that will happen. Leslie mentioned Futa.

Francis says he doesn't have a read on whether or not Conroy will be the GM.

I just find it tough to believe that one walks away from a POHO/GM position without something else lined up.

Man, I've been saying for a while now that Sutter would stay and a puppet - Futa in particular - would get the job.

Yikes.

I believe Ryan Leslie just said "that list is growing" when it comes to players not being warm on returning

I think it comes from the Brent Sutter days.

How? There's only 1 worse position to be in and that's the Buffalo Sabres, years of high picks and no progression.

Slightly better than that is barely missing the playoffs or an early exit coupled with middle first round draft picks, marginal prospects and boat anchor contracts given to your 2 highest paid players.

How can it get worse than where we currently are?
