For the fanbases and even around the league, there's always been a general "vibe" that Treliving is a good GM, but the actual results are very mediocre. 9 years is enough. Time to try something new.

The context is it's seemingly that picked Darryl over Brad, and the assumption is the vision forward will be Sutters. Will that be the case? Is that all actually true? We're on the outside so we don't know. But it's an easy conclusion to draw with all the smoke.
I think it's that context that is key to reactions.

The guy just isn't very good. He kept betting the house on bad hands and kept losing, and now he left us with a non-playoff team that somehow has 18 players signed for next season with only 1.25M in projected cap space that's simultaneously missing five draft picks in the next three seasons, and we have a prospect pool that's ranked outside of top 20.
Not a good team, not a young team, no room to maneuver. No past success, no promising future, overspending and underperforming. That's the team Treliving built, and you don't keep a GM that delivers these kinds of results.
The guy talked a good talk but couldn't deliver. If there's an issue with Sutter, it's probably because Sutter can also look at the basic facts of the team and note that yeah, this is kind of a mess.
|
I wanted Treliving gone and I am glad he is gone. He hasn't done anything to demonstrate he is an above average GM. He is personable and by all accounts a great person, but that doesn't make his on ice results any better.
I wish him well, but his results here were not good.
I expect if Sutter was shown the door at the same time that people would be feeling much better. The good news is there is still time to hire a new GM and replace Sutter.

I agree if the something new can include getting rid of Sutter.

Also what's up with some of trashing on Conroy as the next GM? Do any of you actually have any idea of his ability to to be a potential GM, I would say no. Tre by all accounts was a hard working and smart guy, I doubt he would employ Control as AGM just cuz he is a fun guy, especially when he had autonomy to pick his office staff. The biggest reason seems to be that he is a nice guy so he won't be a good GM which is idiotic. Some of you need to relax a little bit.

Again, clearly you can see the context in which people are complaining about this.

You are assuming to know what the problem is. For all we know Treliving liked it in Calgary but just wanted a change of scenery. Or the Flames just weren't satisfied with results. But you do you, I'm not prepared to freak out about this, we don't know what the organiztion or team will look like in the fall. It could end up being great.
I'm happy to see what a change brings.

Going to predict that the press conference is going to be full damage control and will be our version of Lowe and McTavish's two tiers of fans presser

For those that loved Treliving's character, it's obvious to me that Conroy is cut from the same cloth. He cares about players and people in the organization.
They could do a lot worse than let Conroy get a shot at the job. He's been studying under Brad for a lot of years now. I'm sure his best traits have rubbed off.

Well, they pretty much ignore their "top tier" fans.
I'll laugh if John Bean or Don Maloney try to run out a "we know a thing or two about winning".

It's an embarrassment for any professional sports organization to have your GM quit. Little doubt Edwards will have his guys doing damage control.

Well yes fair enough. I personally would want Treliving & Sutter gone so I can understand it from that perspective.

There was this feeling like the organization was going to go down the toilet and now it has. Maloney was sooooo good in Phoenix. It’s terrifying to think it will probably get even worse than it already is.

Well this is definitely the cherry on top of the worst season ever. At this point I’m kind of numb and really don’t care what happens next. It can’t be worse than the last 12 months so meh whatever

Not sure why everyone is so down on Maloney, Arizona had some really good years despite having financial issues and that team has actually gone further in the playoffs post-cap than the Flames.

If what Francis said is true about players wanting out now that Brad is gone, I hope those players get traded ASAP if they can be moved

I’ll miss the wizard, not often a GM leaves and the fans are (mostly) upset.
