Any big 4th line grinders on the Rebels eligible for the draft this year? 16th overall baby!!!!

This is going to be awesome!

It's really not going to be awesome

I think Treliving is a tough negotiator, and I don’t think he’s mean at all. Seems to genuinely care about his players.

I also think people still view Conroy in light of his interviews from about 8 years ago, when he was newer to the role, and went on the radio a lot. I haven’t heard much from him in the last while. He may well be a lot more serious.

We don't really know do we?

I have no insight of why he should be promoted, nor do I have any insight as to why he shouldn't.

Great guy. May not mean he's a good future GM. But maybe he is? I have no clue.

I think we could see it happen if Conroy is GM, and then Iginla comes into the org in some way. Either AGM, or even just as a scout.

Iginla's kids are at the age now where they are out playing hockey away from home (Tij in Seattle, Jade at Brown, Joe is draft eligible for WHL this year) and he might look back at his own management career.

I never faulted Treliving for not working hard.

But this is pro sports, where success is measured in results, and Treliving was on average a 93 point GM in the regular season, who delivered a whopping total of 11 playoff wins for us.

I don't get why people feel like this is some big loss. The guy was as average as they get.

That is true, but no matter what people living here like to think, Calgary is NOT a desirable destination for UFAs, especially those that are top tier. A few outliers don't change that. Overpaying for UFAs is the cost of business to get players to come here.

Put BT on a team with full autonomy that spends to the cap AND is desirable for players to play, and you'll see him flourish.

A house cleaning? Sure.

Treliving leaving and Sutter staying? That’s damn depressing man.

I can't speak for everyone but I'm upset that the GM lost the power struggle to the head coach that the players don't like. This is not a good scenario for the organization.

I was just making a silly joke, but that's a good point actually. Who knows what Iginla wants to do once his kids are gone from the house.

Plus, every team except tankers spending to the cap. The aggressive teams spend way over the cap, and work the machinery to do so. Calgary was actually in the bottom half of the league in spending IIRC.

I woulnd't share a water bottle with Francis let alone trust his second hand takes on what is happening behind closed doors.

It would be just as easy to say the BT saw that the long term contracts he signed last year were total anchors and he didn't want to stick around to pay the piper.

Why wouldn’t the flames let the permanent GM choose the coach? Seems like a bass akwards way to handle personnel. The GM should come first and then choose the coach - especially a coach at the end of his coaching career and is showing that rot might be setting in.

I like this. I loved Tre as a GM but it was time for a change, if he stayed he most likely would have most bet on the existing core as that's his "team". It would have been harder to make important decision such as does Backlund and Lindholm get traded, what about other UFAs etc. Historically bringing a new voice is helpful at making tough decisions, this also most likely means Sutter has a shorter leash as the new GM would want to get his own coach.

Tre is a good GM and he won't have an issue finding a new job, but 10 years with a team is a very very long time.

This is unfortunate IMO, and one of those times where I really don't like the outcome for the team (like Phaneuf trade, or Feaster selection as GM). He was not perfect or free of mistakes (no GM is) but Tre was a great GM IMO, and improving. I agree with an earlier poster that this was likely his choice.

Holding judgement based on who comes in as the next GM, assuming this current step is temporary, but I'm less optimistic about the future than I was with Tre at the helm. He's going to get snapped up quickly by another team.

I'm critical of some the things Sutter did this season but Sutter is a winner, Trelving hasn't won anything. I wouldn't automatically assume this is a disaster. Maybe this team needs to stop being the nice guys of the NHL in order to get to another level.

In this situation, for me anyways it isn’t so much about the individuals. It’s about the direction this organization is choosing to go in. They are setting themselves up for some dark times.

How many coaches was BT going to be allowed to sign? Was 5 too few tries?
