If I were the Flames GM? Nope. I'm making the 1st round pick no matter what. And trying to acquire another 1st in this draft at the same time. And then, if the Sabers want to pay up 2x2nd round picks in this draft for Tanev, done deal. That's 4 top 100 picks in a great draft. That's a rock solid cupboard stocking.

As Carolina made an offer for Lindholm at the deadline and he has played there before, I wonder if that's a potential team for Calgary to inquire about a deal.

For Lindholm and his insanely amazing contract I think you just hop on GM Whatsapp chat and let everyone in the league know he's available and to make their absolute best offers.
Then negotiate from the clearly interested.

Mangipane looked over paid this year but GM's know he started the year injured and will likely bounce back to be a valuable top 6 winger, make no mistake his value is still high.

Not top 10-15 pick high.

If I’m a rival gm and tre actually did this i add a b level prospect or a third and get my guy. I expect a lower first (20+) and a b or b+. Tanev will get interest from several teams even as a one year deal.

I have a hard time seeing him bringing back a first due to his past injuries. Guy is a warrior but some teams might worry about how his body holds up.
I might be selling him short or worrying about being too biased but I think two seconds is a pretty good return for one year of Tanev.

Columbus allegedly wants to win quickly and I suppose with a top 3 pick making an instant impact and others returning from injury they could improve drastically if they aggressively add.
Where would we be at with Lindholm for Sillenger+LA 23 1st? Do the Flames have to retain? Is it enough from the Jackets?
Feels like Columbus would love to get both Lindholm and Hanifin?

Get it but quite frankly he is a first pair guy all day long in a league short of first pair guys. Possibly shooting high but if two three teams are looking I could see that return.

Cash in on Lindholm and Toffoli. Please.
Their returns will be of far more use to this club's future than re-signing them into their 30s.
You already did that with two guys and both are already looking like they'll hurt. Don't make the same mistake two more times.
The team won't be close enough while Toff and Lindy are still playing prime type hockey.
Stomach the L and make a killing in futures and prospects. Then load up for Wolf's prime. Start at THIS draft.

What I find surprising is many die hards buying into the notion that this year was close and to give it another go. Certainly a rebuild isn’t a certain thing but how do we expect to have a sustainable winner if we’re constantly muddling in the middle with no results. This team doesn’t have it. Our franchise guys are not true team carrying franchise guys but are signed to long term deals. Get rid of some of that on the books and start the rebuild.

I think Tanev might be a TDL sale instead of off season.

Edmonton would value Tanev more than most teams because of proximity being close to the hype when he was the best defensive D around and healthy.
We could get them to overpay and also make their blue line older and more fragile. I think Tanev has accumulated so much bodily punishment that he won't ever be truly 100% again.
Would love to grab a great future piece or two for a guy that probably wouldn't last long there without needing time off.

I don't like the idea of risking him getting injured again to the point where no one will take him.
I like Tanev but we need cap space and a lot of teams need what he can bring to the table. Seems like an ideal candidate to move at the draft.

Great point earlier about keeping Monohan instead of Kadri. This team isn’t wired to do that, but it was just too much change at once.
What about a Kadri for Kuznetsov trade? There are some NTC’s to work around.

Other teams will say the same about his health, and offer peanuts at the draft. So if the Flames gamble and keep him, a contender will pay more at the deadline if he’s healthy. He did play 82 games last year.

If Lindholm won't sign here, and considering he's a UFA after next year, I would jump on Sillinger + LA 23 1st. You know they would just LOVE to get JG's former Center. Just my opinion.

They’re also reportedly after a defenceman - and willing to part with that LA ‘23 1st in the process.
I don’t think Columbus is going to subtract notable prospects - but I do see a world where they’ll spend future assets (not including their own ‘23 1st).
If they get Bedard or Fantilli? It only makes sense to me for them to get hyper aggressive on the trade market.
They’ve got a roster loaded with good young talent, some elite goal scorers, and a good pool of defenders at the NHL level and at the prospect level.
If they draft 1st or 2nd I think they’ll turn into a good team very quickly.

Honest question, what future piece do the Oilers have that's worth trading for? I thought their cupboard is pretty empty. And they already traded away this year's first and also traded the kid they drafted first last year?
