What were his Calgary numbers like before and after LA? He was used in a different role after his return than during his first stint as a Flame.

So playing with a better player and benefiting ties into what he's learned, his experience level and how he would be as a GM?
If you had actual concerns and didn't live for drive bys and gotcha moments you might be taken more seriously.

What does coattails have to do with Connie's credentials? Iggy was a nice guy too but still did his job as a hockey player. Instead of trying to do a quick driveby maybe put some thought into what you are saying. It is okay to tell us why you don't think Conroy wouldn't be a good GM but back it up with some real content. Riding Iggys coattails has nothing to do with Conroys experience, or education and being a positive person has nothing to do with Conroys qualifications.
Who do you think would make a better GM, I think Conroy would be a good option, he wouldn't be afraid to take risks, bring in young guys and he understands the players he has played under certain coaches. He can evaluate talent because of his own skills and also because he played with one of the best.
It is okay to tell us why you don't think he would make a good GM. Riding Iggys coattails has nothing to do with it.

Conroy really changed the culture and work ethic of the team when he arrived. He helped change the country club atmosphere. He expected to win and brought that attitude with him, something that was really missing from the team.

To answer my own question: - His first stint in Calgary, he was 0.79 PPG.
- His second stint in Calgary, he was 0.44 PPG.
Although, in the end, I'm not sure what any of that has to do with his ability to be a GM. Some great players have made awful GMs and some players who never got a whiff of the NHL have been strong GMs.

The overwhelming path to General Managership of a NHL team is by rising up from the Assistant Managerial position. In that respect, Craig Conroy is immensely qualified.

Pushback as in denial? Did he clarify his remarks? There shouldn't be too many shades of grey in this situation.

Elliotte was very clear when he first said it earlier in the week and then again on Friday that he THINKS that Conroy and Maloney may have been extended. He has not confirmed it as fact. He then said that after he mentioned that the first time, there was "some" pushback on that "but not entirely, so we'll see where that all goes".

If the Flames intend to clean house a la Penguins style, I imagine that move would be a soon so the new management team has time to get ready for draft day etc.
The longer it's quiet, the more I suspect they're working on extensions.

I wonder if they were all provided draft contracts to review (including Treliving) and someone got carried away in what that meant.

Could be as simple as waiting on an outside person doing the team in some capacity, then announcing new roles for others?

If they were extended, who worked on that if not the GM?

I know for sure that Conroy interviewed for the GM job in Buffalo at one point, when the position was vacant, and I think I recall another instance when he interviewed for another GM position?

If there's any truth to it, likely John Bean.

I feel like people underestimate the skill required to play with other skilled players. Connie himself was no Crosby, but he knew how to play with skilled guys and be able to keep a play moving in the right direction without it just dying on his stick. That's a hugely valuable skill to have in its own right.
Another player like that from recent memory was Brendan Morrison.
A different part of the spectrum (skilled but can't play with other skilled players) would be Kadri... and the polar opposite (unskilled and can't play with skilled players) would be... about 1/3 - 1/2 of our lineup.
Note that I'm talking stictly about offensive skill here, not defensive or grinding etc. Trevor Lewis is very skilled at what he does, and his role is important, but I'm pretty sure no one wants to see him on our top line ever again.

As he should. Conroy needs to be the GM . I'm excited for him.
