I think they tried to re-sign him to no avail, if they can replace him with someone with term it could be a win.

Tanev and one of Lindholm or Toffoli should be traded this summer for assets to set us up in the future.

I think Toffoli is a great "trade high" option. His value will never be higher coming off of a career season at 30 years old

Would have to retain money. If you retained $2 million a year on Kadri, he is worth something IMO. Even at that, there is a very small population of teams that wants that term.

Huberdeau will have a big year next year, you can see it in his game now. The guys are adjusting to his style, Zadorov doesn’t score that goal earlier in the year. I would bet money he is at PPG next year.
We should trade Toffoli and Zadorov in the off season, with the way Zadorov has been playing I wonder if we could get a first for him at the draft

I don’t think many teams would retain over six years

Why do folks think suddenly the organization is going to shift gears and start to re-build? Are there any actual signs of that?
I think there will be changes this summer, but still with an eye on winning.
And if they sell off their pending FAs it will be at the deadline.

BTW I just realized that Huberdeau and Kadri both now have 54 points.
Not great for either but speaks to the improved production from the former and the reduction in play from the latter.
Toffoli should have been the Flames' rep at the all-star game.

Agree 100% on Huberdeau. You can see him getting more comfortable and I don’t see any world where the PP is worse next year. A new voice behind the PP could do wonders.
I would hate to see Zadorov go though.

I dunno; our D and offensive output this year have been pretty middle of the pack and no where near our biggest issue which was surprisingly goaltending this year. Even with just a bit better goaltending this year it would have been enough to close the gap and have us in playoff contention a lot sooner than battling for the last spot all the way to basically the final week of the season. With the increases coming for Weegs and Huby I could see both Marky and Hanafin as potential chopping block contracts this offseason to try and reset the core. A lot of this would/will depend on Kylington and how/if he bounces back and is able to suit up next year but I wouldn’t be shocked to see Hanifin and Markstrom moved.

I don’t see selling Tofolli and Zadorov as a rebuild, more of a retool to get younger and faster. Don’t need to use those first round picks to pick players, you can use them to trade for someone else

But those players are on very affordable salaries. I question if you can bring in players as good, for that price tag.

They’ll be looking for hockey trades I bet. Like the Hamilton trade. Not many teams can afford to take cap in without cap going out.

You don't move out good players like Toffoli just to get faster. Faster is great, but if it doesn't at least match his production, what's the point? You replace guys like Lucic and Lewis with speed. Way less risk.

If they end up with pending UFA’s at the deadline we’re gonna be in the same boat as years past. Too competitive to trade them then potentially lose them for nothing. That can’t happen again.

Good point, I'd say only if they are young players on ELC or RFA contracts.
Of course, development takes time.

I don't disagree, but what signs are there that the organization is suddenly changing it's approach?
