I will just say - I'm not a web master - but I highly doubt that whatever attention Yoho brings here is resulting in a windfall for CalgaryPuck.

I've met a lot of people off this site, and their real-life self is basically consistent with their online self. I just haven't encountered some liars or fakers. I believe if you and I met, we'd get along as we kind of already know each other and we get along on here.

Imagine, though, if you were like, 'hey jambox bro' and I was like, WTF is that?' And you'd be like, 'that's our thing...remember?' And I was like, 'oh that was probably my wife...sometimes she's Sliver.' Wouldn't you kind of feel like now you didn't really know me and who you thought you were talking to wasn't actually me? Wouldn't that diminish our relationship some?

And with CrackMacs, it became obvious they were just self-promoting so it made their posts even less genuine. I went through their post history and they were marketing themselves to somebody they were trying to get something from by citing all their followers in the Calgary area and how they wanted to partner and stuff. So when you are talking to CrackMacs, 1. Who are you talking to between the two or more users, and 2. Are you having a sincere interaction or is there a marketing angle and you are being targeted? 3. Since they moderate communities, are they moderating with their personal and professional goals in mind, or are they moderating with the best interests of the community in mind?

So maybe they're not a bowl stain, but they're definitely at least a bowl splash.

And there are ethical ways to merge your personal and professional personas. I like the way CalgaryPuck does it. I know Justin from Gem by Carati...he's a rad dude but it's not like he's in the threads in the regular forums marketing to us. He keeps it to his sub-forum. Same when Travis and Slava had one. Same with the Chrysler guy now.

The bowl splash duo, though? They just don't conduct themselves like ethical people IMO. I have no respect for them.

Yoho is singlehandedly financing this site through traffic generation.

Ugh. Them, Bridget Casey, and Mike Morrison can be beyond obnoxious on social media. I remember them going off about police helicopters hovering around downtown a few summers ago like the noise was killing them or something.

I think one possible idea to improve the forum would be to have less massive mega-threads for every single topic. Just take a look at the first page of the Off-Topic Forum right now, most of the threads are thousands and thousands of posts long on topics that are pretty all-encompassing (Politics, Science, Travel).

Personally I find it quite annoying to discuss and contribute to current events when you might have to slog through a dozen pages of bickering and in-fighting that resulted from the previous dozens of pages before you can even find the topic you were looking to comment on.

Lets normalize making new threads again!

This post sounds like something a misogynist would say.

You can start any thread you want, though. I think the community just organically went to megathreads. I personally don't have a problem with them, but new threads are always good, too.

You can, but it inevitably gets shouted down by "Did this need to be a new thread?" "What was wrong with using one of the threads for this we already have"

People acting like there's a limit to new threads are why we have so many mega-threads now

Yeah, that's true. I love when those posts age poorly as the thread gets up to several thousand views and a couple hundred posts.

I was joking, because that's basically half of her schtick. Everything is mansplaining, even when she asks a question and a male happens to answer it. It's mind numbing.

Bridget Casey blocked me on Twitter for the sin of liking a post from a restauranter who was diagreeing with her tweet about....restaurants.

But when you're a high profile women on twitter I can't blame them for a hard and fast block button. Even if the 'champagne socialist' thing was one of the most annoying and frustrating bits on alberta twitter for a while.

I need to look up who this Bridget Casey is as it sounds like it could be humorous.

It would be some digging, but the best was during the Covid decline in 2020 where she was basically begging for the stock market to be closed. This is someone who sells investment courses and basically brags about how amazing she is. It was hilarious. She talks like she has it all figured out, but reality suggests something else. The, of course, she wrote about crypto and all that while it was rocketing higher and suddenly nothing when it crashed. Same with cannabis. I’d imagine a lot of this is deleted now, but I won’t forget.

She’s had run ins with other professionals on there because he asks about something, gets an answer and immediately gets upset because it’s a male who tells her, or things of that nature. Depends on what kind of enjoyment you take from these things.
