The shopping area near the Tsuut'ina Costco is slowly coming along. It looks like there will be a bank or two, Servus credit union, storage facility, car wash, bubble tea.....and of course a Tims (already open)
When I drove by there last it looked like the Dollarama may already be open, as well.
Is it really Wendy’s, or am I going to end up with a Wemdy’s burger?
The idea of ghost kitchens seem sketchy to me, but they might be the wave of the future.
Would you like some malk with that?

I heard that the Earl's in Willow Park is moving from Macleod to Southcentre Mall next year
That would make a lot of sense since traffic is a lot higher than the ToysRUs parking lot. Is Milestones still open in the Southcentre parking lot? That could be a good location for Earl's.

I believe its going in the Southeast side of the mall. Milestones will stay put, somehow.
Take Briggs as an example. dubc80 went once, ever, "a few years ago"; what do you think happens to businesses where patrons only go once, ever? They tough it out for a few years and then go out of business.
EDIT: Anyone remember what Briggs Kitchen and Bar used to be? I do; curious if others do. Immediate predecessor, not Cannery Row.

Briggs was around for ten years though so your comment seems a bit out of place when it comes to that closure.

At $57 for a dozen it better be the best donut in Calgary. It is probably the most expensive.

Sure, 10 years is a good run. The underlying point is that they do go out of business and become something else, eventually, and it's super common. It's not "worrying".
My question remains open to anyone who might remember: what occupied the space Briggs Kitchen and Bar was in before it was Briggs?
First and last time we ate there, it was an absolute disaster, from the service to the food.
Something about that place screamed overpriced crap and so we never went... Guess I wasn't the only one that got that impression.

Sumo Sushi?
And yes, Briggs had a good run. I went quite often when I worked in the area in the early years, but because of that, it never registered as a destination for date night.
Tomahawk Kitchen + Bar on MacLeod around Southland has closed after 1 year. By all accounts it was an overpriced place with terrible food.
Went there a couple of times to try it out and it was always empty so this is no surprise.
Food was not bad, although pretty pricey. Didn't really seem like a good spot for what it was. And they basically just painted everything black from when it was Jack Astor's so it didn't feel very upscale at all, just dark.

Close. Sumo Ten
It was only around for about... four or five years? Can't quite remember off the top of my head anymore. Cannery Row had a 20+ year run in that space before that, but before Cannery Row... no idea what it was.
Anyone else remember what the place above Cannery Row was called?

What the hell was Cannery Row anyway? I remember hearing about it in commercials, or maybe in Calgaryopoly as a kid. Same with Mother Tuckers a few blocks down...and maybe a few other ancient Calgary classics that have disappeared. The names are just iconic to Calgary to me since I heard of them as a kid but I was never old enough or lucky enough to eat in them.
