The Flames dug a huge hole throughout the season. Blew a ton of opportunities. But are still finding a way to climb out of that hole.

If they do manage to pull it off they will certainly be battle hardened for the playoffs.
The Jets will be well-rested for that game and the Flames will be playing their 3rd in 4 days and having played less than 24 hours before it. It will be a tough test.

You're a lot of fun!

Flames outplayed them badly and should have won the game by two or three goals.

Two heinous turnovers, and a powerplay that was meek was the difference.

Doesn't change the fact that they dominated five on five.

Canucks were 10-3-1 or some ridiculous record like that heading into last night. It was not poor competition at all. It was actually a huge win.

From the Oiler fan comments ..

The loser point thing just kills me. A team gets a game to overtime you're going to get a point. The Flames aren't circumventing the rules there. And ... in overtime it should be a coin toss on average yet the Flames are like 20% at best. The team should be 7 points higher with average bounces.

Powerplays ... Calgary -17 in PP differential this year. Edmonton -1.

I want a good draft pick probably more than any other fan. But I'm not so emotionally detached to not at least respect their scratching and clawing a way to playoff birth.
I'm at a point now where it's just interesting to watch the situation unfold how it may with no expectations either way.

Oilers fans were cool with loser points in the bubble season when the Habs benefited from them over the Flames for the last playoff spot. Now all of a sudden they’re a problem…..

That seems to me to be the way you have to approach it. Every year is a different story with a different plot. At the end of the day it’s entertainment and this year is full of drama.
Of course I’d like to see great new players coming our way in the draft too but I just can’t bring myself to cheer for losses or be blindly critical for the sake of shock value.
Besides, two of the best players this organization has drafted were with picks acquired by trading a star and a pick made in the 4th round. Much more pleasant and blowing first overall picks time and time again

Abysmal display. Hahaha.

This game was the Flames on display just as they have been all year long. They are a team that dominates play but prone to terrible breakdowns, particularly when they're down personnel (ie, Tanev). The difference between all the other losses and this game includes:
- got a save at a key time
- got some calls from the refs, at key times
- got a key goal from the pp, at a key time

Could it be a sign they're turning the corner? Hope so, I believe the team's woes are mostly mental. Was it "abysmal"? No, it was Flames hockey with a couple of things going our way this time.

Everyone on this board knows this team has issues to address but let's wait until the fat lady sings to harp on those, the team is what they are. For now, enjoy being in the thick of the playoff race.

And we keep seeing a ledge from pick 7-9 to pick 17-19 with all being somewhat equal.

If there's ever a year not not tank to to move up to pick 12 this is the one

The only way you can, is if you go into it thinking it will be an abysmal display, because that is what fits your ongoing narrative.

All the fans tell ‘buttman’ and the league to f themselves for gifting Calgary a win… go watch the 2-1 (I mean 4-1) win against LA. Two legit goals literally taken away… lol McDavid even admitted the Coleman no goal last year was a burn in Calgary… don’t even get me started on how hilarious it is to read oilers fans calling Calgary the luckiest franchise, take some time to self reflect, good god.

Yeah, you'd think that when the opposing coach comments that they tried to gameplan for the Flames forecheck but still couldn't handle it, a fan would be proud of the team's effort.

Quote:
“We battled. It’s tough," Canucks coach Rick Tocchet said of his team's performance. "They had six power plays. We couldn't handle their forecheck. I thought they were dumping a lot of pucks. And we tried to have a game plan, I thought a couple of guys didn't execute.”

Absolutely clutch win. You just know Van wanted to stick to Calgary and despite the adversity they showed some resilience. I bet on them down 1-0 and down 4-3 with 8 left. Won me a good chunk of change. Markstrom woke up late, couple key saves in OT. Toffoli is feeling it.

It would have been pretty easy for them to say “well, not our night” when down 2-0 early in the 2nd. Or to crumble after losing the tie in 12 seconds.

First comeback win, first 3 game streak, an OT win (it’s been a while). It’s a huge W.

Felt really good to win that game. Toffoli is the absolute man.

I'm just always happy when Tony from Richmond scores a big goal.

That's awesome. Can suck fans are the worst imo. They get unnecessarily angry and aggressive, and if they out number you, they taunt and start stuff. Every single game I've been to that's a Canucks game in Calgary or one in Vancouver, I've almost gotten in fights on them all cause some Dingus can't keep his hands to himself taunting me

Thinking about it again we had massive blunders that ended up in our net but overall we controlled the game. Just think the dead atmosphere made it seem like we didn't play well.

Vancouver is a fair weathered market. Seattle is better.
