I know Andersson is being sincere but the part "it's in my family" made it sound like a disease.

Loved that new jersey. I wish it was available to fans. I also think it would look even better on that Blasty alternate dark jersey. I think they'd make good coin with this design on a whole line of merchandise- hats, t-shirts, hoodies, etc.

That logo is so good
Taking the existing red in the C and gradually easing it all the way to purple with pink, green, and blue used in conjunction with Alberta-ey things? It’s so well done

Hahaha…I definitely attribute that to him being a non-native English speaker.
Full credit to Andersson for personalizing the message. He didn’t fall back on boilerplate but instead spoke with passion. He’s a leader and wants to build a team that isn’t just good on the ice but one that is good off of it too. I’m very proud to have him on the team.
If I was a gay NHL player, he’d probably be one of the first guys that I’d be open with.

If I were a NHL player, I personally would not want to be forced to wear a pride jersey due to personal reasons.
I believe the collective message of inclusivity by the NHL (which I am for) can be expressed in other ways. Have pride symbols in the concourse, in the stands, on the pucks, painted on the ice, or along the hockey boards.
It just goes too far when a pride jersey is being forcefully mandated on someone's own back. That strikes me as an intrusion to one's personal identity & thought.

I agree with your sentiment that no one should feel forced to wear it. But the players are not being forced...that's why some are opting out around the league. And I hope most people are mature enough to fully support every player's right to make that decision for themselves.
I actually think the voluntary aspect of participation in pride makes the message substantially stronger. If something's optional and you get 95% of people participating, I think thats a lot more genuine and authentic a statement than forcing 100% compliance. The NHL isn't celebrating pride because they feel obligated to. They're doing it because the vast majority of people in the organizations - including the players - genuinely want to. I think that's a wonderful reflection of social inclusion.
How do you feel knowing that while it's optional, every single player on the flames wants to do it anyways? That even though they could have opted out, they wanted to go ahead with it. To me, that's makes it substantially more meaningful

Don't think for a second that it's truly optional. It's as options as getting the vaccine were, and look how that worked out. This is bullying, no matter what you say.

People come to see NHLers. They don't come to see the concourse, stands, pucks, ice or boards. They come to see the NHLers.
If a young LGBT person who potentially feels unwelcome by his family or friends goes to NHL Pride Night and sees his favorite NHL player refuse to wear the jersey, how do you think that person might feel? Despite the rest of the arena being decked out in pride like you suggest?
I'm sure freaking happy that player exercised his free speech rights, right? Not.

I just want to distance my opinion on the actual jersey/logo from takes like this. I have other Flames Pride things and I 100% support Pride and everything around it. Frankly, a couple of my friends have debated bidding on a jersey to gift me because they know I don't like these actual jerseys, despite being 100% supportive of Pride and LGBTQ issues in general.
I know, no one here has lambasted me for not liking the jersey, but I just feel like I want to be crystal clear that my opinion is on the actual jersey and nothing to do with the cause or other positions that might be somewhat linked!

Not a big fan of the jersey itself looks wise, but not sure how worked up people can get when it is only worn for a warm up as far as I understand it. Even if it were worn for the entire game, I don't cheer for this team based on how the jersey looks. Fully support the message behind it and people/players getting bent out of shape for putting one on for a little warm up is ridiculous.

I love it. It's unique and not the token "paint our logo in rainbow colours" that most end up being.
