Lucic's effort has never been a question. His slower paced game in this day and age is the problem. I'd even argue not propping him in front of the net shift after shift is a bit of a misuse of his frame and soft hands. Anyway, love Lucic the guy, but his cap hit has been tough. Come to think of it, we have loads of cap hits that are going to be probably worse, in the coming years - Coleman, Kadri, Huberdeau, Markstrom? Damn. If Treliving can get value back without eating salary this off-season, he's a real wizard.

The closest I can think of to an “elite” game that Huberdeau has had this year is that OT win against the Rangers at the Dome. He only got a couple of assists but he was making a lot of great plays all night that game. Could’ve had more assists

Gaudreau has had five 3 point games and one five point game on a terrible Columbus team.

This is fun!
The Nuge has had 3 4point games and 8 3point games.
I'm not even looking up the other two numpties up there.

So you exaggerated what you expect of an “elite” player. There’s no doubt Huberdeau has been far short of expectations. But while he hasn’t been great by any stretch, he hasn’t been helped to do so either.
And Gaudreau and Tkachuk’s 3 point games haven’t seemed to translate into a lot more wins.

So this means Nuge “takes over games” does it?

Huberdeau is not an elite player. He will never be able to put this team on his back and make them a winner. Some of you have already posted that he needs better winger to be successful. Why then are we going to pay him 10.5 when he needs help. God forbid that I would mention MacKinnon or even McDavid needing help. Either one of them and several others would have stepped on the ice and provided more than he ever will. This continued justification for him is just b.s. So what if Sutter put him on the ice for the last shift. That doesn't mean he will suddenly be the hero. If he gave as much as Lucic, he might be the player we thought we were getting. To hell with trading away the whole team to make him look good. Do whatever necessary to move him, Kadri and Marstrom. Rebuild while we can before we have to go through again what we've had to go through for the last 30 years. But probably as long as fans keep filling the seats, change will never happen.

How much help does an elite player need? Shouldn't he takeover games and be the driving force of his line. I'm guessing you blame Sutter for this?

More than I wanted to. I also took him in my pool. He gets 4 point games by being on 6 power plays a game.

I'd like to see Ruzicka, Pelletier and Deuhr all back on the farm for the Wranglers playoff run. Stack that team.
They are better off developing down there under Love than this miserable piece of #### team that (spineless?) BT and thick-skulled Sutter have created.

I don’t blame Sutter for much. Not as much as you have a Harare on for Huberdeau.

Blame the flames more than Huberdeau, he was amazing until he got here. Like many players... so blame is on the flames.

At this point it doesn’t matter if Huby or Sutter is the problem. They both haven’t delivered this year. What matters is that the org is gonna need to ask themselves what is best for the future of the team. Because it’s clear whatever the #### they’re doing currently isn’t working

I clearly speaking specifically to the last 10 games where he is top 15 in 5v5 points but people still are saying he hasn't been good enough.
Him and Toffoli have been their best players over this last 10-15 game stretch.
Over the full course of the season of course he could be better, but he hasn't been an issue over the last 10-15 games IMO.
He's not Nathan Mackinnon. He's not Johnny Gaudreau. He's not going to play that flashy game. He's more of a cerebral player.

Is that why Florida was happy to trade him?

No, they were happy to trade him because of who they got.

I don’t think Florida was planning to trade him until they saw a younger, talented power forward that suddenly became available
