I think Gallant is another guy who demands a lot from players too.

Barry Trotz was also tough on guys too. Eventually the stays do get shorter and shorter. Maybe with a longer term deal Darryl is being a bit harsher than normal. I really don't know
Maybe it’ll reach the point where the players moms will get hired as coaches. Or run with no coach. So everyone can be happy. (Except for the owners and fans).

So are the players coaches just - Bednar, DeBoer, Woodcroft, McLellan, Hakstol, Montgomery, Cooper, Keefe, Maurice, Brind’Amour and Lambert out of the playoff teams then?

With apparently Gallant, Cassidy, Ruff as the hard asses

Evanson and Bowness unknown?

Is that roughly correct?

I think it’s just the perfect storm. There isn’t apart of our game i like. Yes goal tending. If the team is not playing systems worth a crap in front of goalie. We were on paper a stellar defence. I don’t think i have seen so many breakaways, odd man rushes continually or playing deep allowing their defenceman a free lane to goalie. Brutal. This isn’t Sutter hockey we know. Playing one on one defence structure just doesn’t work with this team.

Then offensively we like ringing pucks off bars and just can’t bury the puck or watching our putrid power play perimeter play or sustain great pressure but hey we can get 40 plus shots on net from a distance. Not sure what answer is but it begs the question in off season. Huge questions on our new additions. Got nothing bad to say about Tre but maybe a change of guard. Luv to know how much ownership plays in directive.

We need more young blood and enthusiasm. No better time coming due to cap restrictions . We are an old team and after these signings we’ll future looks bleak
.

Not sure Woodcroft qualifies tossing out 97 and 29 every other shift doesn't take much work

My opinion is that Sutter is a great coach and poor goaltending has sunk what otherwise could have been a fine regular season.
That being said the powerplay coach can get canned any day now.
This team struggles mightily to score goals. Pretty sure this years Flames puts up the most effort to goal scoring ratio I've ever seen.

The fact that Huberdeau isn't playing with Lindholm and Toffoli is mind blowing at this point. Mangiapane isn't going to get going. This is exactly who he is, and I can't see any reason to put him on the top line. It's not like he was burying his chances on the third line.

Right now mangiapane and Kadri are lose causes.

Put them on a "loser" line, cut their ice time, and play huberdeau where he belongs.

It doesn't take much work, but there is something to be said for playing to your strengths.

At least Woodcroft ensures that his best players see the most icetime and have the freedom to do what they do best.

lol he is doing what every coach ever has done there...he has slightly better depth and goaltending.

They are the 3 seed in a bad division in McDavid's historic season...pretty sure they would have the same record with me behind the bench. A good coach would have them leading the division IMO.

They'd have an even better record with you behind the bench. Leading the league even. You're captain positive and never ending glass full coach.

That's a terrible take. The poster was describing certain traits of Woodcroft which are good. Also- Woodcroft's team plays a much more structured game than his predecessors.

You changed the goal posts and completely are discussing a different topic of whether or not Woodcroft has the team playing at max potential.

Hate when posters do this. Drum up some random potential negative to counteract an unrelated positive.

Then go back to HFOil. Why do Oilers fans expect Flames fans to give the Oilers props on a Flames board?

Mangiapane has been one of the team's best players all season. Don't confuse a poor shooting percentage with a lost cause.

the guy is the 33rd ranked forward in the league this season in xGF%

Completely uncalled for. Having a different opinion and recognizing a positive about the Oilers doesn't make anyone an Oiler fan.

Mangiapane Backlund Coleman would be an effective line on any team in the league. You can win a SC with those guys.
