I didn't know it's possible to lose all respect for complete strangers on the internet, but here we are.

Just be happy all of you or most or you. That you didn’t grow up in this social media. Camera everywhere world. I mean to be fair. I don’t think I ever did anything even close to this ignorant and stupid. But man. I did some stupid things in other ways haha. Can’t understand why he thought this was a good idea.

I paid $8500 for my last wheelchair, that didn't include the upgraded wheels and tires; $2200, the seat cushion; $1000, and the back rest $1200. My previous chair I had for 10 years and was a peice of junk, it was like winning the jackpot when I got my new chair. I'm getting a new chair soon and the base price for the chair is $10,500. I am an active wheelchair user, I need something a little more rugged. The chair that had been thrown down the stairs looks like an invacare folding chair. Kind of a mid range chair.

Wow that is extremely expensive. I had no idea. I really hope the government helps pay for it.

I did dumb #### too including things with friends that would've looked terrible on HD cctv and probably would've sent us viral for stupidity reasons
But those things were largely of the embarrassing nature and the only people we ever hurt or put in harms way were ourselves
Some of those friends were pretty senseless, but even then I can't imagine any of them trashing a girl's wheelchair
That's a no-no, even for drunkards. That's how stupid it is
This is one of those things that just doesn't fall into the "they were drunk, so what" category

Yes, if you are paying for that out of pocket maybe we could set something up on the board to chip in..I know last time we did that we got took by a swindler but I am sure that is not the case here. People need to help people in these times.

How casually they roll it down the stairs... It's like the intrusive thought won that time.

Not in my case. My income is too high for AADL, I have private insurance. I do get a tax credit for the remaining amount I pay out of pocket. It works out pretty good. I have rental properties that I need to offset the income tax on.

All I can get
|
Three individuals have been suspended by Mercyhurst Athletics for their parts in the incident. I'm guessing green t-shirt guy said something when he pointed to the wheelchair.
All three are student athletes.

I'd sign up for that jihad.
I (like others) would just ask for a photo for proof's sake. We promise not to go photoshop forensic detectives about it this time.

I've never had a family member need to own a wheelchair so this is eye opening for me.

Yes. I don't know much but I did have to go through hoops for previous chairs I purchased through the AADL cost share program.

I was in a similar situation at that age. We were out and in a stairwell in a building that had a sled to take disabled people down in the event of fire. One of the guys I was with became obsessed with riding it down the stairwell for fun.
I walked away. He rode the sled. Life went on. I am glad I did what I did, and thank God I know better right from wrong.
As folks said the lack of empathy here is disappointing. If I was his father I would be embarrassed and livid.

The jackpot thing took the cake. The consequence of pushing a wheelchair down stairs is not simply a wheelchair tumbling down stairs. Beyond that, I imagine that going out to a bar could well be a less common occurrence for this person than for many others. Imagine the next time this person thinks of going out for the evening.
I will be interested to see what ‘accepting full responsibility’ translates in practice
What a piece of ####
|
Absolutely. That would #### with that person's sense of security going out to a public places for social events in the future. It would #### with their ability to trust, because I'm sure that image of their personal property being violated would linger with them for some time.
Having experienced theft and having property ransacked not long ago, those feelings of violation prey on one's mind for a while. And that was inconsequential property.
