People who spend their entire lives taking advantage of people because people let them. There are tons of people like this. And there are people who are just diabolically cheap. They'll spend thousands gambling in a casino but will look for free parking and free buffet. Or in a workplace, don't you notice the same people always showing up for free stuff?

I get it's different for Dion since he lives in high river.
My friend always offers to drive me, but I turn it down so I don't have to reciprocate.

I'll drop off/pick up my wife and my dad. But it's only a 12 minute drive, being up here on the good side of town.

Sure, just make sure to use your neighbor's address.

It's like hitchhiking. You just have to follow the unwritten book of the road. Make sure you always 'reciprocate'.

"The good side of town". That's a good one.

My brothers wife wouldn't let him drive here from Minnesota due to potential bad weather. He basically told me this was one of those battles he wasn't going to win. And he loathes flying.

I have no issue with airport pickups so long as I know when the flight is going to land. If you give me the flight number I can check, or if you're flying with checked luggage I'll just leave my place when you touch down since it's going to be a wait anyway.

I generally fly carry on only and I know when I'll get there so that no one ever has to wait more than 5 minutes. You can walk straight out on the departures level, turn left towards the uber area, hop in and go. Easy.

You can just check the flight arrival schedule on the YYC website and leave accordingly. I live pretty close to the airport, but I am not leaving until I see it has arrived. Between the time it takes to get off the plane to get luggage or take a post-flight whizz, it’s plenty of time.

Alerts on Flightaware Ftw. I can follow the flight all the way here, never an issue of guessing when it may arrive. We live in Tuscany and can leave when we see the flight has landed and still be there in time, usually even spend a few minutes in the cell phone lot.

The world is getting weirder and going downhill man. I ordered a pizza through the app. The same place we’ve ordered from regularly for years.

After I ordered I went to do something for a while and left my phone on the couch. I came back to it ringing and 7 missed calls. I answer it. It’s the pizza place. The driver has been out front across the street from my house for 10 minutes and she wonders why I haven’t gone out to get it yet.

As I’m confused and she’s making no sense I go and wave him down. He’s super pissed that they’ve been trying call me and I haven’t answered. I say to him, uh well just ring the bell mate (like your peers have been doing for 60 years) and politely gesture to it on the wall. He huffs, turns and just essentially gives me a F U. So bizarre. Time to stop giving a good tip at the time of ordering or go back to picking it up.

The best is when the person realizes you are doing them a favour (if that is the case), and says they’ll just call you after they get their bags, so you don’t need to keep an eye on anything.

I can afford a $50 cab ride, but I'll definitely take someone picking me up. It'd be different if it was reasonable. "Oh, we're just getting to the lights to turn onto Deerfoot and it's already $12?" gtfoh.

Why do they get to tack on $9 just for an airport pickup? It's ####ing fish in a barrel, it's a guaranteed fare. Why is that worth $9?

The airport gets that money / the cab company pays a large amount to get exclusivity and that fee goes to pay for that contract. Blame airport monopolies for that one.

The airport fee goes to the airport, not the cabbies.

The city is at least partially to blame imo. They regulate taxi fares. If they didn't allow an airport surcharge the airport wouldn't be able to extort that fee from the cab companies, and it wouldn't get passed on to consumers.

How refreshing would it be for this message to just be honest. Like "hey, maybe someday you'll get straight through to a rep, but today is not that day. It'll probably be a while. Here's some chill music...we made sure to not put it on a stupid loop where it sounds like the rep is connecting every 60 seconds."

It would cut your shovelling in half...or in my case *humble brag* cut my shovelling down by 1/3.

I’ve picked up friends and relatives numerous times. Some have done it for us. I’m 40 minutes from the airport.

It’s no big deal. I check before leaving home to confirm arrival time and arrive a few minutes early to wait nearby. The person calls or texts me after picking up luggage and I head to the pick-up point. I’m happy to do it.
