Term would be why. Even one more season is not nothing for the team acquiring

No changes, keep everyone, no trades, hope for better results. That’s the smart solution.

I actually feel like being terrified of change is something that has hurt the franchise

Insider trading:
Edmundson may not get traded
Some teams are worried about his extra year with his injury
Others are not so worried because they don't want to spend on a rental.
One team told LeBrun they need to see Edmundson play tonight
LeBrun thinks the game against the Leafs tonight is huge for the Flames in determining if they want to add
Flames interested in Edmundson because he is not a rental.
Flames not in a position to spend big on a short term solution
Sens may still be looking to add
Looking for another center and told his players he is going to try and help them
Jets would like to add a scoring forward
Have not been playing well lately so some debate if they should add more
Jets don't have a lot of picks, so don't want to spend any more picks but do have cap space
Canes don't have anything close
Canes were all in on Meier
No appetite from ownership down to spend 1st round pick on rental
Possible they might try to add a cheap forward at last moment
Vegas has $3 million in cap space and if they find a broker or retention they could still add a big player.
JVR at 50% retained is at $3.5 million - intel to connect him to the Jets as well

Just no stupid moves.
Sell high and don't buy unless you buy low and said playing will fit into future plans and wants to sign here long term.

because it disarms them for next year
I mean, move Lewis, Ritchie and Gilbert, if you can get anything for them - they won't be part of next year anyway
But if you move Lindholm or Backlund or Toffoli, you've thrown the towel in for next year. If you do that, then sell them all and burn it down.
But that isn't happening because they have a win-now roster that committed to this team. So give them one more chance

Moving one of those guys is throwing in the towel for next year? Not in my opinion, you just can’t be that attached to one player.

I have my doubts anything is going to happen. Yes teams certainly over paid on some players but I think flames waited too long and missed that boat. There are teams like Carolina left but they may be left because they didn’t want to pay the high prices in the last couple days. If so I doubt that changes.

Wait one more year mind set is the reason, the Flames are a bubble team and struggle to be a contender....
They need to change directions and be creative,,,
Nashville is a example of what the Flames should have done
Not burn it down,

I find it so depressing that the flames literally don’t have any sense of their direction yet.
What does 1 game change?!?
Truth be told, I think I’d be happier to hear a treliving extension tomorrow than a trade. At least we know who’s running this ship . So much ambiguity around this franchise.

If these guys think they can compete against the best, they’re delusional. So the question is why wouldn’t you sell for long term benefits in a year which is largely considered a generational draft, and crazier yet, teams have started to give up their firsts to just go for it? Answer is playoff gate revenue. Such a big opportunity to sell some assets. Still a day to go but to not get in on this is terrible asset management. As soon as they get booted in the playoffs they’ll look back how bad a decision this was.

I predict Treliving picks up a minor league player for the Wranglers' playoff run and the forum here goes berserk.

What teams have a 2023 first they want to give up right now? You guys are just assuming they are getting massive offers when we have no idea.
They shouldn't feel pressured to make a move for players that aren't UFAs....that's how you pull a Feaster/Jaybo

The Flames should be selling.
Any non-selling or buying shall be met with frustration.

That’s the problem. Teams have made their decisions and have made their moves largely. Waiting to the last day to determine if they should sell is dumb. The writing has been on the wall for awhile. The team can’t play to expectations. They needed to read the market and sell where they can.

Agree. If what Lebrun said is true and the Flames are using tonight's game to make their decision, then I really do question what kind of leadership the Flames have.... if any.
Mediocre franchise is mediocre through and through I guess...

They chose the direction this summer when Gaudreau walked and Tkachuk was traded, and Huberdeau and Kadri were signed long term. Once that choice was made, it's on rails from there. There is no exit from the path they chose. It's win-now, or bust. Unfortunately, they are not in the position to make win-now moves. I expect Treliving, or whoever replaces him, will have a busy draft and off season re-tooling. The trade deadline for a team in our situation just isn't a great environment to make moves.

My worry is the GM knows they should be pro-active and sell.
But the Coach and Owner want to buy.
If Tre was the one driving the buying he would have bought at the all-star game IMO.
