Well, easy in that it would have been a lop-sided victory in terms of possession over the game. The Bruins shouldn’t have scored the first 2 goals. So it’d be a 3-1 game with a great performance by their goalie.
This is one where I the Flames shooters weren’t firing softies from outside - Ullmark was just that good, and lucky the puck hit him in a couple cases. That 57 doesn’t even include the lucky post and rebound by Lucic.

Can you just create a stat called "special ultra high danger chance, brought to you by DeluxeMoustache" already?
Obviously the people who built these models based on hundreds of thousands of shots are stupid and can't see what is so plainly obvious to you.

or Mangiapane shooting wide with an empty net

Speaking of Ullmark, man I remember wanting the Flames to sign him to be the back up two years ago when he was a free agent.
Not sure if they even tried or not, but in the end they trade for Vladar from the Bruins (which truthfully was a solid move) and then the Bruins sign Ullmark.

11-4-6 record vs those teams even with all their bad luck this season.
I have a good feeling that they will get to 96-97 points.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Yesterday felt like the perfect storm for change in Calgary.
Bettman on hand and not threatening to move the team
All the trades made in the league
Murray Edwards there and likely speaking at length with Treliving
Jon Hamm!
Something has to give

The definition is correct as it is a high danger CHANCE from the spot where player receives the puck.
Not a high danger shot placement which could be something you could start!
Maybe call it the HDSP% (High Deluxe shot placement)
Dube's goal is a perfect example. Doesn't matter if he scored or hit Ullmark's logo, it is a high danger CHANCE from that spot.
Then you can use your HDSP% and break it down if puck was placed 18 inches (above pad but below glove), bar down, post in, logo finder, etc.

If we met the Bruins in the Stanley Cup Finals, and they were required to play the second game of a back-to-back against us for all seven games but somehow we were rested, I truly believe we could take that series in 7.
Alas, Bettman would never let that happen…

1. No, I can’t.
I have an idea what would be needed for a meaningful stat, but the information required is not being recorded and available publicly as far as I am aware
2. On the contrary. I don’t think they are stupid in any way
They are doing a good job given the data they have to work with, trying to extend it
And in fact, they recognize that there is significant challenge and question if it is actually possible to decouple goaltender performance from team performance
The thing is, many people understand the concept at which xG stats are trying to arrive, but most of them don’t actually understand how dangers are assigned, and what probabilities are assigned to various danger levels
It really is a good attempt but really ends up being a marginal improvement on sv%
Like I said, but not in a James Earl Jones voice, maybe we will take some time to dig in to it. Truly from a point of being interested, and thinking others may as well, but I fear some people are just going to be dicks about it

Okay, so I actually went to bed when the Flames went up 3-2. I thought they were playing so well that it would be hard to lose that game once they went up in the 3rd with not a lot of time remaining.
I woke up to the prototypical 4-3 Flames OT loss. Heee-####ing-larious.
I cannot wait for this season to end. We are absolutely cursed, and no amount of good play is going to overcome it. Just let the suffering end please...

Really though there's a very good chance that Ulmark would have been a bust for the Flames once Sigalet and his staff got a hold of him. We are well past the days of thinking the poor goaltending is due solely to the goaltenders being bad. There's something going on within the organization that's contributing to goaltenders playing worse the longer they play for the Flames. Can't blame the head coach this time as Darryl Sutter has the team playing the right way and yet the goaltenders are worst in the league.

Further vindication that there's just something off with the goalies. This team has it's issues, but they can certainly play well enough as a collective group to be in the playoffs.
Vladar should be stapled to the bench for the rest of the season - he's been far worse than Markstrom has at any point this year over his last 10 or so games and it seems to be getting worse. If Tre want's to make one deadline move, it should be to call up Wolf and give this team a look with a different backup down the stretch.

If we're just going to play out the string I would rather just let the worst goalie play and hope for a better draft pick. No sense in having Wolf play lights out to secure 9th place. There will be plenty of time next year to see if Markstrom is permanently broken.
Edit. If you're saying the team really thinks they can make the playoffs then I agree, give Wolf a try.

Toffoli looked stricken at that one. he had a couple ones he muffed. TBF I was watching from the same angle Toffoli shot from and I think Ullmark saves it if it’s on net. He was getting to that position.
