What is the deal with this?

Ironically...I think this will make their PP significantly worse. Better 5v5 tends to lead to more sustainable results...but the oil aren't an Ekholm away from being a good 5v5 team...

Overall they might be better but Schaefer and a 1st to maybe get better?

Ekholm is 33 soon as well and makes quite a bit more than Barrie
1.5 million more then Barrie

I imagine it's actually just Holland's contract dude just screwing the pooch. Holland got them to agree to 40%, but the sweatpants wearing lawyer typed it out as 4% and sent it off for final signing. Holland didn't notice, Poile was like "YEP! SIGNED!!"

4% what's that $250k? That's basically a rounding error on the cap.

Top pairing of Ekholm - Nurse, for the bargain basement price of $15.25M!

Ekholm has seen his best days

It's a pure now move

And the Oilers are still far, far from the best team competing this spring, as other teams improved much more decisively

That $250k will allow them to...

overpay Bouchard by an extra $250k?

Still, congratulations to him for getting out of Edmonton.

Would think that Tanev would have similar value though slightly depressed due to injury history. But retained at 50% I would expect a similar package. Two good assets and a third throw in asset.
?? The Flames already signed Ciona to a 3-year deal, so he's already a pro as soon as his junior career ends.

Anyway, I hope Schaefer continues to develop and eventually eliminates the Oilers from the playoffs.

I'd like to think that he misread that 4% as 40% and tripped all over himself to sign before realizing the 0 was actually him needing a new pair of reading glasses.

Re Reid Schafer: How often do teams trade their 1st round draft choice eight months after selecting them?

He's an Edmonton native as well... "we're proud to select you, but GTFO because we need a defenceman".

The 4% retained is so funny because you just know it's cause Holland needed to be able to tell clown nation he got retention on a pretty large contract for a 33 year old

...I didn't even know he was their 1st rounder from last season (32nd overall). That's pretty funny. No idea that this is actually Barrie + 1st + 1st + 4th. That's one hell of a price.

Does Schafer cry to his pillow or dances on the street now?

Oh and Holloway must be thinking, why it can't be me going the other way?
