Congratulation to Barrie and his family and condolences to Ekholm and his family.

Except it won't matter when your goalies suck.

Yeah right, we know you guys rag on every player that's run out of town.

You don't really think that

I think Tanev gets more because his salary is quite a bit lower and his contract is shorter

Call me a hater but

JP, Barrie, Out
Ekholm in isn't a massive upgrade

and then no 2023 1st when they lose in the playoffs

again I think some of you worry too much

You can give McDavid all the credit for Barrie's points but none of their other dmen are even close, they will miss him on the PP...which is basically their biggest strength

I heard the majority of 1st's don't make an impact in the NHL though, so probably worth the risk

I'm glad they had to give up this year's first, but also glad they had to give up Reid Schafer- I think he'll be a good one.

4%?
That must have been a hell of a negotiation.

Hurts them capwise moving forward, and have a feeling while Ekholm is an upgrade defensively, he'll end up just like Larsson. Preds are a defensively sounds team, top to bottom, with a system that supports the defense. Oilers are not. Ekholm will be the lone man playing defense, with expectations so high that he's the answer to their woes that he crumbles and becomes a mid 30's over paid middling d-man that spector tries to run out of town in the next 24 months.

I think Ekholm is instantly their best defenceman.

...but it doesn't improve their team all that much in removing Barrie. Barrie is good, and was having a good season - and signed to a fair deal.

Edmonton got better, but not massively and they paid a big price.

I agree. The JP move was to squeeze this one in. JP out hurts if they have injuries up front.

Ekholm in Barrie out does not help their depth on d.

Overall they might be better but Schaefer and a 1st to maybe get better?

Ekholm is 33 soon as well and makes quite a bit more than Barrie

I think it's an upgrade, but not a major one, because the replacement for JP is nothing.

And it isn't just the 23 1st, it's also their 22 1st.

I don’t think this moves the needle much at all for the Oilers. Still will only go as far as the 2 forwards and the PP will take them.

It all depends on how much he can "Tanev" their blue line

And that's entirely up in the air still

For it to be a net win, he needs to make the job easier for the goalies. And he won't get much if any help from the forwards. Depends on if he can make a difference

Barrie is so bad defensively though- they got a much better defender, and if he finds his offense again, especially in the playoffs, they are doing ok.
