Interesting that they're so ready to move on from a huge piece of the PP. Bouchard gets all the reps now, hopefully he can pump up his #s before extending.
Schaefer is a future bust anyways, so the value here really comes down to the pick. Wonder what the protection conditions are.

You think Ekholm can solve their bad goaltending? All the Oilers did here was blow a 1st in a deep draft for nothing. Plus they got worse on the only thing they do well, the PP. Ekholm can't save the Oilers, nobody can!

Would this be a comparable return for what Tanev could fetch? Almost the same age, Tanev with slightly less production comparably but obviously his forte is defense/PK

What a strange comment - ripping on a guy that played pretty well for your team?
Boy is the fandom toxic up there
It's actually a massive W to get out of that sinkhole
Congrats to the Barries!

Nashville will flip Barrie and retain salary on his deal rather than Ekholm. Now that makes sense and they will get someone for him at 50% retained

Dumping Barrie is a big win for Holland, I don't really like this deal.

I think it is an upgrade, but they do lose a good dman for quite a price. Ekholm is a good fit for them but Barrie isn't useless either.
They are very short assets after giving away JP and trading a top prospect and 1st

And I still wouldn’t want him on the Flames. Probably has half of those without the wonder twins. Ekholm actually plays D.

Still, congratulations to him for getting out of Edmonton.
Would think that Tanev would have similar value though slightly depressed due to injury history. But retained at 50% I would expect a similar package. Two good assets and a third throw in asset.

Lose offense, gain some steadiness at D, which was needed
Overall I think it's a net benefit to the coil, but not a massive advancement
Ekholm is an old dog. Not sure he's going to like the complete lack of accountability up there defensively

still he isn't a dump like people are saying...he is their best offensive dman by a mile and PP QB

Actually, Tyson Barrie and Reid Schafer are the real winners here.

Nice. I mentioned yesterday that Ekholm was the guy I wanted and someone on this board asked the price. Wish Barrie the best as he helped the powerplay immensely and can generate offense but he wasn't great on defense. Ekholm will be a big upgrade in his own zone. Wish Barrie the best of luck. Great guy.

Barrie has had a good overall season for them. Actually stepped up defensively. Bouchard is not ready for that roll. This is an upgrade but not as big as some might think. That and the 2 firsts makes this a pretty big payment.

Not having to move Broberg, Bouchard, or Holloway to shore up their defense is a win for the Oilers IMO.
|
Yes, but it is a big cap hit for 3 more years for an aging player
Salary retention would have upped the price a lot. But now they have his $6.25M on the books for 3 more years
