Hard no to trading an asset to Edmonton that would increase their chances of playoff success. I'd rather trade to a different team for a lesser asset than help Edmonton. Hell, I'd rather lose the asset for nothing than help Edmonton try to win a cup.

Would welcome Tanev on the team.

The player I want is Ekholm. I think he is a good veteran leader and is good defensively. I think the Predators will want a lot but Ekholm is #1 on my desired list.

Its funny, but I've been thinking they could sell a bit, and possibly still make the playoffs. As has been posited here recently, the biggest problems with this team are mental. Selling might take the pressure off.

Considering what Tanev does to the Flames defense, and team as a whole, that would be a monster addition that addresses exactly what's holding the Oilers back

Like I would hate to do it but I feel like if a team wants Miller they’d probably rather have Huberdeau. Would be a get out of jail free card but you’d hate it next year when he’s back to superstar level.

I could be wrong, but it looks like a lot of the teams that might be considered "buyers" are pretty much done now, at least when it comes to reeling in the big fish. You have to consider:

-NJ is mostly done after getting Meier.
-NYR will be done after Kane, and Tarasenko.
-Toronto got ROR, I wouldn't be surprised if they did something with their D.
-TB got Jeannot, and depleted their resources.
-Jets got Niederreiter, and his $4m cap-hit.
-BOS gets Orlov and Hathaway, a combined $6.5m cap-hit.
-Looks like St.Louis and Nashville are selling.
-Ottawa cleared room, maybe for Chychrun?

Could be a slow day on Friday....

I hate the Oilers as much as any one but what I hate more than that is the Flames mediocrity for the last 25 years since I've been watching. Tanev will only move the needle so much for Edmonton and that needle wont be to a cup.

Long term the picks would help and pool party could be the next Edmonton pick outcasted to strive on another team. It seems we May or may not make the playoffs and if they do not for long.

Bolded point is why the Flames suck and had 2 franchise players walk out and only got assets for 1.

I hate the Oilers 2 but I hate the Flames sucking more. Take a deal that benifiets you.

With the prices being paid, Flames need to consider selling. It doesn’t need to be a fire sale. But they should consider offers for their players and pick any offers that seem like overpays.

The Flames are 10th in points percentage, behind NSH, who just got a draft class for Tanner Jeanot. (Super bitter taste in my mouth.)

Flames are one of the worst asset managing franchises in the league. They’ll wait to lower player values before trading them or just walk them to free agency.

It’s just how they roll.
