Can anyone recommend a dietician/nutritionist?
I debated about whether this should go in the Power Ring (and if so, please move it!), but as the title says, I'd like to connect with a dietician/nutritionist. Please let me know if you are one, or if you have a good one to recommend.
Thanks!

Well one is a licensed practitioner and the other is a quack with a TikTok, so choose wisely.

Yeah, I don't know what I'm doing, which is why I kind of asked for some assistance here.

I believe you can get a nutritionist covered as well through the Primary Care network. I saw one once at no cost, it was really helpful!

While you're not wrong for weight management, Registered Dieticians deal with a whole host of other dietary expertise beyond just weight. For example, learning to cope with diabetes, Celiac disease, Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, or other IBS/IBD afflictions, Registered Dieticians can provide guidance on adjusting to new dietary restrictions and using diet to control symptoms and flare ups.

They are for sure but the wait to see one can be long.

Calories are not calories. Different foods have different nutritional calories and effects on the body.
OP: I don't know any professionals personally but perhaps you can expand on what you are trying to achieve? Eat healthier, cook more healthy meals at home, weight loss?
I have a pretty decent knowledge on healthy foods, cooking, ways to shop smart/what to look for etc. Sometimes it's not that hard to eat a lot healthier with some very low level work and it can be little, easy things outside of "eat more veggies"

I was just typing up a response as well. I’ll just paste it below.
Not all calories are equal and approaching your diet in such a way could be dangerous. The foods we choose can have huge affects on how our bodies process and absorb foods. It’s not just about energy. You could end up being a skinny unhealthy person.
Im no dietician, but I’d recommend starting by eating way more fibre, fruits and vegetables. Adding fibre can slow down the rate at which your body will absorb things like sugars and lower LDL cholesterol.

Honestly, I didn't really want to post about what my reasons were, not because it's super personal, but I didn't really want a bunch of people chiming in and critiquing my thoughts/plans. I really just wanted to get in touch with someone who would be able to help me out here.
I don't know if that makes sense, and maybe I'm trying to over-simplfy here.

Fair enough.
Great that you are looking at ways to improve your diet. The only thing I'd suggest is to ensure that your dietician is actively and continually improving their own knowledge base. Dietary recommendations are changing at a rapid pace and what was a good diet 10 years ago is very different from what research is indicating is good diet now. And will likely continue to change with future research.

Yeah and it's really interesting to me, in that sense. I've done a fair amount of my own reading and research, so I have some idea on these things. For lack of a better explanation though, I didn't want to turn this thread into a "Keto is amazing" or "Keto is so dumb" kind of discussion (I'm not seeing this person to get into keto, purely an example).

Sounds like a "I'm sharting my pants and I don't know why" situation. We all know people that have been there, or have gone through it ourselves, so share among internet strangers.
Mircobiome is big right now...unfortunately even the best tech I've seen or spoken to users is limited to mapping a bunch of cool stuff, but at the end telling you to "eat right" and "exercise". A bit of a let down.
Also hot right now in investment world are the diabetes drugs being repurposed as appetite suppressants. We see their niche as an alternative to gastric band procedures. Novo Nordisk makes the wegovy and ozempic. Mournjaro is the other one working its way through approvals (Eli Lilly).
Diet and nutrition as whole has been a pretty disappointing space. I dated a dietitian with an actual science degree for awhile and all I ever wanted was 5-10 go to meals that I could consistently make and know that I had my energy levels input / output balanced and all my essentials covered. Could never get there, which is incredibly disappointing. Good luck.

One of the benefits of getting older is that your body will inform you sooner than later when you put s**t into it. Our bodies just aren't as strong at overcoming that garbage like it was when they were younger. Never too late to start listening to it.

Doing supplement research and stumbling upon Ozempic being suggested as an appetite suppressant was an interesting one to me. Last thing I need, personally. I'm struggling to eat enough as it is.

I'd just offer two pieces of advise when picking someone.
My only advice would be make sure the dietician is not also advertising a naturopath designation, I think there is a bit of overlap in people carrying those titles. Stay away from anyone who nods to magical thinking in their job title.
I once heard dietary advice summed up as, don't eat too much and make sure it's mostly vegetables. I'd cautiously avoid anyone who is selling you something that doesn't fit squarely inside of that.
I think there is a lot of BS in Keto or almost any other fad you could name, but it pretty much fits those two rules, so it probably works fine for a lot of people, I just think all of the extra BS is more performative than anything else.
