Maybe Sutter and Huberdeau can actually bond over doing a terrible job after getting a big extension

No said he needs to compliment them. He also doesn't need to take shots at them constantly either.

I'm sure it takes remaining strength of schedule in consideration, but I currently see the Flames chances of making post-season as unlikely...

90% seems high but "unlikely" is pessimistic
Being better than Minny the rest of the way doesn't seem like that tall of a task. Within 6 points of 5 playoff spots available to them. Win tonight and you are also 3 back of LA with a game in hand.
Win tonight and you are either ahead of Minny or 4 back of Vegas with a game in hand

LOL doesn't last long.
He will probably be in the HHOF one day and his average tenure is likely longer than 98% of NHL coaches.

No one asked him to compliment his team. No one asked about whether his team has stars or their team has stars. He seems to think spewing bs and playing mind games will make his team play better. It doesn't. And understandably makes his players get tired of him.
Like lots of coaches over the years, he assumes - and lots of fans and posters on here seem to assume - that since he has a good record of success, all of his tendencies are part of that success. Not so. Just as players have holes in their games, so can coaches. Seems to me the more pressure he's under, the worse Sutter's worst tendencies get...which eventually leads to a death spiral. Not there yet but he could brake the fall by checking himself on garbage like this.

I'm not inclined to think the players are paying too close attention to what he's saying in front of the press. Positve or negative.
What I do think happens is that coach will pump up a players tires in the media, and those same reporters will then go to the player and talk to him about how he's playing well and doing great. I suspect Sutter loathes this which is why he's usually not doling out compliments too often.

I will donate $20 to CP if Huberdeau gets 3 points tonight..
I know, 1% chance of that actually happening, but here's to breaking the lack of offense curse..

Gilbert would need waivers after tonight's game if sent down, correct?

Even your explanation makes it sound like 50/50...or at best 60/40.

His 2 Stanley Cup titles and more than 700 career coaching wins seem to counteract with your criticisms.
The coaches job is not to coddle players or pump their tires to the media. It's to push the players buttons and try to get the most you can out of them. His track record of doing so also speaks for itself and whether it bothers you or not is completely irrelevant.

well "unlikely" is worse than that
I would put it at 65% personally. Its not like its 7 teams fighting over 2 spots
Its 7 teams fighting over 5 spots. Somebody will drop, play decent hockey and you will make it. Teams like Minny, Vegas, Seattle, LA are all showing cracks IMO. Preds went on a bit of a run but that was largely goaltending and I can't see that as sustainable.
Despite what you hear on CP Vladar has been getting the bulk of the starts of late and his points percentage speaks for itself
