Joel rebuilt the battery from scratch in the episode if you missed it. He finds the components in the fridge and a bottle of sulfuric acid left by Bill. In 3rd world countries, people do this often, stripping the lead plates out of batteries and recharging the acid.

YEah, I was wondering if TraditionalALe missed that part in the episode. He even looks at the engine after popping the hood with a look of "ahh **** no" before looking over at the fridge.

We've been lied to about grenade explosion sizes since the dawn of war films

You don't see people up in arms about making the explosions smaller and less fireball-y

There's no sound in space

You don't see people up in arms to have all space fighting sequences made silent

Let's roll with the rules of fiction, it's a lot more fun

Oh I think everyone is for the most part.

I know I was being heavily facetious when I brought up the lighter scenario at the end episode 2.

And the sheer frothing at the mouth outrage being displayed by Bostonians about the misrepresentation of their Greater Civic Area at the beginning of Episode 3 seems, at least to me, rather tongue-in-cheek.

As was my comparison of the show to a dark and gritty rendition of Mario Bros.

Quite frankly, I think people are just having a little fun nitpicking at minutiae, and I think we should be glad, if not overjoyed, that they are!

When people poke fun or nitpick over minor, inconsequential crap...it usually means that there really isnt anything substantial to complain about, which is a generally fair assessment of the show thus far.

TLOU is nailing it which is why people stoop to whining about zippos, battery acids, the shelf-life of indeterminate fuel and mind-boggling Massachusetts geography as well as the ludicrous spelling of the word 'Massachusetts.'

'Tis a silly word!

The last episode was extremely good. I cried a lot. I will not engage in nitpicking.

Ok stupid question probably but was Bill gay before the pandemic? Was he in the closet pre pandemic? or was he simply lonely and seeking the compassion and take what you can get in a pandemic

Debating with a friend, know nothing about the games

He was always gay. During the piano scene with him and Frank when he sings the song Frank as who the girl was, and Bill says "it wasn't a girl" which is meant to show he's gay but closeted.

Bill has had sex with a women before, probably in his teens or 20s when he was trying to be straight or unsure of his sexuality etc. Which he tell Frank in bed. But yeah, Bill has always been gay.

Interesting i was slightly confused cause of his awkwardness with the kiss and bed scene but that makes sense then, i assumed closet but i kinda liked the angle of people adapting to post pandemic life and yearning for companionship.

thanks for the insight!

It seems to me that the implication is that Bill being gay is part and parcel with his whole pre-outbreak attitude... his whole outlook on life, his "I don't need anyone else" survivalist mentality is inextricable from his repressed sexuality and discomfort with who he is, which is the guy Frank finds and opens up a new world for. If not for the zombie apocalypse, it's very probable that Bill would never have been happy.

This is the reason (or, well, one reason) that people who complained that having this gay romance in a zombie show was woke propaganda or tokenism or whatever are so completely off-base. This wasn't a situation where HBO or Mazin or Druckmann went, "let's make sure we include some LGBT content in this, so hey, we'll just make these two characters gay, done and done"... For the story they told to work, Bill basically had to be gay - they would have lost so much here if it had been the same things happening to a man and a woman.

*this is me being annoyed at not being able to talk about game 'spoilers' that have already occurred in the show when discussing adaptation choices*

I don't think he had to spoiler that, the start of episode 2 said the outbreak started in a grain or flour factory - I can't remember which but there was something about a "perfect substrate".

The thing that doesn't make sense about that to me is that, ok sure, the thing has evolved to live in slightly higher temperatures, human body 98 degrees, global warming, yadda yadda, whatever. But presumably if you throw it in the oven at 425 for an hour...

Next thing you know someone is going to tell us that cordyceps can’t infect humans, calling this entire fictional television show into question!
I was around in 2003. None of that happened.

Yea I wish they hadn't even gone into what caused the outbreak at all, it's not needed and doesn't make any sense since no one is eating raw flour

always thought that Heavy Rain would make a decent show, if done properly.

the first Dead Space too, especially for the main character not to speak the entire time.

- That zippo had more than enough spark to ignite all the fuel on the floor of the building the zombies were charging. All she had to do was kneel down and spark it. But instead she made out with a zombie.

- One thing TWD did really well was training the characters to use firearms early on, as it makes total sense. This whole "no guns for Elle" thing is really lame and makes no sense whatsoever. Someone that has never even touched a gun before can get instruction in a couple hours on how to be safe with a gun.

The no guns things for Ellie makes complete sense to me. What is she? 13-14 years old? Not to mention there is a complete lack of trust between her and Joel right now. It’s clear they are slowly building that up.
