It's fantastic. Easy to see why TLOU is such a great series as well.

‘The Last of Us’ makes a mockery of Boston-area geography

Why does the hit HBO show think "10 miles West of Boston" looks like "a coniferous forest in the Canadian Rockies"?

It's a fair criticism. 10 miles west of Boston is suburbia, not the Rockies. It completely f'ed up my suspension of disbelief.

- Unless there is a factory still making car batteries then there is no way in hell any regular car battery would still be working 20 years later. Maybe a military grade, pure virgin lead battery of some kind, but even then, nah. No way. A car battery self-discharges 1-2% per day, until discharged enough the sulfuric acid turns into water. So now you have a calcium coated led plate left in water for 20 years, but sure! Charge that baby, it'll work!

- That zippo had more than enough spark to ignite all the fuel on the floor of the building the zombies were charging. All she had to do was kneel down and spark it. But instead she made out with a zombie.

- One thing TWD did really well was training the characters to use firearms early on, as it makes total sense. This whole "no guns for Elle" thing is really lame and makes no sense whatsoever. Someone that has never even touched a gun before can get instruction in a couple hours on how to be safe with a gun.

I was thinking about it, and it occurred to me that the way they structured that episode was actually very much like the way stories were told in the game through gameplay - you'd get snapshots over time, usually through notes or letters, that told a story about the lives of people Joel and Ellie would never meet and were generally long dead. Because the perspective of the game was always locked on the protagonists it was basically the only way to expand the player's perspective of the world. They did it visually here, not in writing (despite the nod at the end with Bill leaving a note) but there are some real parallels in how Bill and Frank's story was presented to us... I think that's part of why this works so well.

How to completely depart from the source material, yet remain faithful to it... Kudos.

Excellently put.

I already know this is going to be one of those series where when it gets to the end it'll be agonizing that you won't get to watch the next episode for probably a couple of years. Which is a good problem to have, don't get me wrong.

They built a massive fake town in foothills industrial in the empty lot beside their film studio (beside VersaCold warehouse, across from Great Plains Arena). I got a bunch of great pics in before they put up 50 foot fences with black coverings as it neared completion.

Can't wait to see that in the show.

If we're being pedantic then the sparks wouldn't matter as the fuel would have long been rendered inert after sitting in a barrel for 20 years. Also makes the battery issue moot, but sometimes you just have to put physics aside and enjoy the show

Ok I will pay money for this. Original cut for episode 3 was 2 hours long! and it's good! Release it!!!

Quote:
It’s been praised all over the internet for the past two days but, apparently, there’s more episode to be had. In an interview with Deadline, Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin revealed that the first cut of the episode was closer to two hours and it was so sad, he hurt himself crying.

“It wasn’t until I saw the director’s cut that I knew [we had something special],” Mazin said. “Peter Hoar did his director’s cut with our editor, Tim Good, which was quite long. When they sent it to me, I think it was almost two hours or something like that. So, I was like, oh, that’s probably not good. And I sat down, but I’m like, ‘Okay, I’ll watch the two-hour version of this episode.’ And I cried so hard that at one point, I actually said out loud, ‘Ow.’ I mean, it hurt. I cried so hard; it hurt. And I thought, ‘Well, if these guys can do this to me and I wrote this ####ing thing, then I think it might work pretty well on other people.’”

Holy ****, Burn this City is viewing the thread. I was literally just thinking the other day (after seeing another similar named poster) that he hadn't posted in a long time, after posting regularly for years.

I've never been to Boston so I wouldn't know that. So it doesn't deaden the experience for me.

Eff you Bawston. Shut your pie hole and just enjoy all those sport championships you had over the years and be sad about Last of us!

I thought all the pieces were separated for the car battery.

“Boston doesn’t look like that!”
“Ummm you can’t just charge a battery that old”
“The gasoline wouldn’t act like that after 20 years”

Next thing you know someone is going to tell us that cordyceps can’t infect humans, calling this entire fictional television show into question!
