How about I thought he had a good game he's a young player with lots of work ahead of him but it was a good start.

Or is it a requirement for him to be a DB to everyone. And a few select people's just cheerlead his BS ON.

Toxic human coach and I'm genuinely worried about young players wanting to be here with this guy behind the bench. It's not like he's getting great results either.

Oh come on.

Asking what number he is? Saying hes only 21 and long way to go. Is not a normal response after a players first game.

All you have to say is "Thought he was okay for his first game, lots of room for improvement"

To say #### like "What's his number" is intentionally being disrespectful of the player.

And sure maybe he said something nice to Pelletier in the locker room (doubtful IMO) but even this its not respectful of his family and froends to be so disrespectful of him in the media, and doesnt send good messages to guys like Coronato that do have a choice when it comes to picking this organization.

Sutter needs to be a better representative of this organization and I dont see any upside or reason for him to talk about guys like Phillips and Pelletier the way he has this season in the media.

Even if it is just his schtick, What good comes from it?

It should be completely unacceptable by any employer or boss to treat an employee in this manner.

I don’t see how what Sutter said in that presser just now is a positive thing. Especially when his team is expensive, old, and generally speaking utterly mediocre.

His schtick has worn through on my side.

Sutter got his ass absolutely handed to him by a guy who uses shoe polish to dye his hair pure black in the playoffs last season. Sutter’s arrogance, and general negativity is not a positive thing for this team/organization.

That's a d__k move by Sutter.

If he thinks the 'hype' is unwarranted, then he should take pot shots at the fans and the media - they're the ones hyping the kid up. Pelletier's not the one running around telling everyone how the team should be excited he's in the lineup.

Weak Darryl.

What Sutter said in front of the media doesn't mean he is saying the same thing to the kid behind closed door. Besides, what he said isn't all wrong, as good as the kid has play today, he has a long way to go. Giving him unnecessary praise will just give him unnecessary pressure. I also think if it wast Francis asking the question, Sutter might phrase his responds differently.

Public perceptions matter, especially in such an underwhelming season.

This team needs more positivity from the people in charge, not less. We should be looking at pumping up their tires, not deflating them.
The media runs with these stories to click bait you guys

Coach doesn't need to be pumping tires he needs to be pushing for more. Pumping tires gets you a massive let down after every big win.

He played one okay NHL game...big whoop, be better monday

Least we forget that Sutter a few days ago give an uncharacteristic high praise or Jakob, and says he believes he's got good potential. I think that says a lot that he likes the kid, since he on the record for saying it.

When Sutter says something in the media, take it for a grain of salt. We're not new to this with him.

I missed most of the game, but isn't it way too early to draw conclusions one way or the other? Pelletier had what? 6:50 mins of ice time? Can you really look great in 7 mins? If Pelletier looked great that's awesome, but let's at least give it a few games before concluding Sutter is being an ass instead of just tempering expectations.

I don't see anything wrong with what he said. The kid is 21 years old and this was the first game of his career and he should have a long road ahead of him.

No one in the world wants their first day on the job to be their best day on the job.

Just watched the Sutter clip. The only thing I’ll take away from that is the he really doesn’t like Salim Valji. Yikes.

While I agree that what Sutter says behind closed doors is more important, these are the only public comments we see. The only public comments his family and friends see. There is no doubt he's going to get asked by his parents what that comment was about.

That's just not cool. I feel bad for him. This should be a special moment for him. Instead, the only public comments by the coach are to embarrass him.

Yeah, this team doesn't need to get too high on itself, but they have never been high on themselves this season. Maybe try something different. Maybe give people credit even if they don't deserve it (I think he does). This just gives me a headache.

Is it the same as Tortorella and that Rangers media guy? Brooks I think?

No one is saying that giving him some praise after a good game wouldn't hurt.

There is a way you speak to people and Darryl Sutter clearly does not have that skill.

I don't think so. He treats it like a farmer would. Farmers don't brag, they just get it done.

Ironic part about people defending Mr Negative and Toxic are the same people who jump into PGT to whine even before anyone has posted about people being negative and toxic.

The most negative and toxic person is the damn head coach.
