I talked to someone very high up in Willow Park. The plan is too keep it exactly the same to the point you would not even notice there were new owners. The power of the deal is in the restaurant distribution side of things. For the owners they are well into retirement age.

Is South Pointe Toyota moving next door (downsizing)? it looks like a small building next to theirs is being renovated into a Toyota branded building

A&F is officially closed as of this past Sunday. I managed to snag a couple long sleeve henley shirts for something absurd like 60% off. Totally forgot to hit up Hollister for those sweet, sweet deals.

Also, don't you put that evil on Saks, I still have a gift card for that place I need to use.

I noticed that the Safeway in Ogden (on 18th street just off glenmore) is now something called Freshco. Anyone every shopped there?

As per wiki, it looks like a discount version of Sobeys, so I guess a No Frills type idea. I've never seen one before in Calgary.

There's a few out there. Sunridge Safeway and Brentwood have both turned into FreshCos

I went into the Brentwood Freshco once just to see what it’s like after going to London Drugs. It looks like it’s limited. Probably fine if it’s nearby and you’re just looking for routine items. Otherwise I’d never go there just due to the lack of variety and the small town US warehouse grocery experience.

I go there every now and again to pick up some lunch, its a big place and seems to have a decent selection.

Its...a Grocery store.

Is the Whitehorn Freshco open yet?

The Safeway closed around Easter last year. I wouldn't have thought it would take that long to convert a grocery store to a grocery store.

Freshco sucks. They turned our neighbourhood Sobeys in Evanston into a Freshco and I hate it. Terrible bakery (there is no bakery, just pre packaged bread), no deli or fresh made things, produce is very limited and always in poor shape, and nothing is ever cheap. Never notice anything cheaper than Superstore would have. The meat department is Ok only because it’s a Westgate meats and they have some variety. Seafood is non existent. The actual layout, quality of interior design, and look of the store is as gross and cheap looking as you can imagine.

Did I miss something or is every Safeway going to be transformed? I’m sad the Whitehorn Safeway turned to a Freshco. That was was first job as a bag boy in the 90’s. I also remember shopping there when it was Food for Less….now I have to visit the nostalgic Calgary thread.

They just renovated the Glenmore Landing Safeway last year, so I wouldn't expect that to get redone again and turned into a Freshco?

Regardless though, it couldn't actually be worse? The layout of that store is the absolute worst possible for a grocery store. I could never find things there before the changes, and after the changes I still somehow can't find anything.

Well the old people make driving in and around there painful, to say the least.

They only put FreshCo where the demographics suit.

Lakeview is not that demographic.

They’ll likely eventually convert them all once the brand is more established.

O_o

Very doubtful they'll convert all Safeway stores to FreshCo stores...
