How toxic is this “just transition” plan that neither leader wants anything to do with it?

I just can’t see Notley being credible to the voting public on this. She was fairly foolish getting into partnership with Trudeau her last term. If she thought he was a guy who would return the goodwill, it shows fairly poor judgement skills.

The partnership that helped get TransMountain approved as quickly as possible after the NEB employees hired under Harper screwed it up?

I’m okay with Notley standing her ground, like she did when she got into it with other NDP leaders, and I would certainly hope she stands up to some of Trudeau’s crap.

But her playing nice with Trudeau was the best thing that has happened politically for Alberta in like the last decade.

That depends. Are you talking about political toxicity or practical?

But Yoho and Smitty ensured us that Notley and Trudeau were in cahoots.

We already knew she doesn't (fully) align with the federal NDP, and preferred to work with the PM rather than oppose him.

This was already known. Why would she not be credible? If anything it proves even more that she's a Lougheed politician and far more appealing to the moderate voting base.

The Breakdown @TheBreakdownAB

From the DM’s…

Heard from multiple reliable sources today that the UCP caucus is a hairs breadth away from boiling over and prospective leaders to replace Smith are actively being discussed.

I thanked this purely for the few posts before yours. They are amazing, and kind of encapsulate Alberta voters to a tee.

I highly doubt this. Highly.

Whether they should or shouldn't, they will not turf a newly elected leader mere moments before a provincial election. A lot talked a big game leading up to the party election, then afterwards, completely disappeared and can't be bothered. All for power, nothing more nothing less.

She’s not credible because admitting she is for some mindless right wing voters would mean admitting their own blinding bias and lack of credibility. Notley works with other leaders when it is smart for Alberta to do so (like the carbon tax, which became worse for Alberta once we approached it ideologically as opposed to practically) and doesn’t when it isn’t. This has been known by anyone paying even slight attention.

Maybe dump Smith for the next chump which creates the excuse to extend the election the extra year.

Honestly at this point you could probably achieve this simply by writing a sign with a big arrow that said "Trudeau blackface pictures in here!" You'd have them all inside in a few minutes.

The party would have to go through another leadership race which would make the UCP look like a clown show. Then again, they already are.

Or would they? Correcting a horrible mistake might actually benefit them. The only problem is that they waited to do it.

Sure. But they're not replacing the Premier, after they just replaced the Premier, with only a few months before an election.

And I grew up in rural - rural - Alberta.

I wonder how many ridings the UCP will need new candidates in...we could see some real special bozos this time, because anyone with a modicum of self respect will stay away.

I am starting to think that Smith was making crap up but that can't be true.
