Watched 8 1/2 yesterday great film, very meta before meta was a thing, would recommend everyone see it at least once. I saw the 90s movie The Player and it was heavily influenced by 8 1/2. The movie is from Fellini who was in a creative funk after making La Dolce Vita and the movie is about an Italian director who is in a creative funk after his last movie, I wonder where he got the inspiration for it.

"Plane" is a damn good January action movie with two strong lead performances (and really good sound mixing, of all things). You should all go see it.

Very much one of those throwback movies that were being discussed on a previous page.

Who's in charge of marketing these movies, I've never seen a trailer or anything else to promote this film. Looking at the synopsis it looks fun and something I might check out.

One of my all-time favorites. Great recommendation.

I don't know what Gerard Butler did to derail his career but he appeared to be a rising star after the success of 300 but didn't really go anywhere. Still gets lots of work but mostly B rated action movies.

The Death of Stalin - finally watched it, amazing. Smart writing, funny, brutal, lightning fast pace. Highly recommend!

There seems to be a fine line between taking a lot of roles to make as much money as you can while the iron is hot and being extremely selective even if it means you work less. It seems once an actor takes too many roles in mediocre quality films that they become less attractive to hollywood executives casting big budget movies.

There are always exceptions to the rule: Nic Cage.

I prefer the Viggo Mortensen/Daniel Radcliffe/Robert Pattinson style career arcs of Huge Franchise -> Obscure Niche Films Where They Have Fun

In fairness it literally just opened wide today. I saw it on some weird extra early Wednesday preview screening at Landmark. I arrived at the theatre to see something else and I saw Plane on the machine and I was like, wait, doesn't this open on the weekend? I'd heard of Thursday previews but not Wednesday.

Exception as in took any role he could to pay his debts? Cage had compiled a massive pile of dung the last few years.

'Top Gun: Maverick' director says the US Navy 'wiped' his camera clean because he photographed something he 'wasn't supposed to capture'

Quote:
The director also said that after one of his visits to a secret base, the US Navy confiscated his camera.

Kosinski said: "So, I got to live that dream of being in the Navy for a couple years. I got to go to places that civilians don't get to go to. I got to see things that no civilian would get to see. I had my camera confiscated at one point. Wiped clean."

The "Tron: Legacy" and "Oblivion" director added that in his "quest for authenticity," he thought he took a photograph of something he wasn't supposed to see.

Finally watched Everything Everwhere All at Once. Just amazing. Unique, exhilarating, emotional and ####ing hilarious. It absolutely deserves all the praise it's getting. I enjoyed the hell out of it.

It's one of those movies that, even if you didn't enjoy the plot/character/themes, it's still an incredibly FUN movie. Who doesn't laugh at hot dog fingers or raccaccoony? Nobody I would want to be friends with, that's who.

The Banshees of Inisherin was really good. The best I've seen from Colin Farrell, and I also loved In Bruges

I think going to rehab for painkillers after his accident really changed his perspective, that's kinda when he shifted gears. Maybe he figured it's best to do as much as he can while he can, but I did read an interview recently where he mentioned thinking about shifting tones until Robert Downey Jr told him how much he loves that type of movie.

It took me 25 years to notice that the record store in Empire Records incorrectly refers to Vinyl as Vinyls multiple times and it’s infuriating. There are signs inside the store and out front that say Vinyls.

Vinyls isn’t a word. The plural of vinyl is vinyl.

It’s still a 90s classic and 15 year old me is still madly in love with Liv Tyler. But ####. Vinyls? Really?

We saw A Man Called Otto tonight, and give it a pretty solid thumbs up.
