I assumed the first season would be about 10 hours; TLOU Part 1 on Story Mode (i.e. the gameplay parts are basically trivial and you're not spending a bunch of time rummaging for supplies or upgrading things or looking around but basically just progressing through the story) is about 15 hours.

Both things are acceptable (I have no idea what being a "grown ass adult" would have to do with it) and whatever you like is whatever you like; play your games however you want to get the most enjoyment you can from them. I just can't relate to why arbitrary "Hey, you've achieved X" thing that a developer put in would matter. But I don't really treat video games like a competition or finishing them as something to be achieved (any more than I would consider consuming any other media like TV or movies or books to be an achievement) so that's probably where the disconnect is for me. Any time I get a "trophy" in a game I'm basically annoyed that there's a pop-up accompanying it that's damaging immersion.

We doing spoiler tags after each episode on Sundays?
I'm not a fan and would typically just not open a dedicated show thread until I'd seen the latest episode. But of course I'll go with the consensus

I think any show specific thread should be fair game for spoilers as the episode airs. If you manage to get it early through nefarious means, keep it to yourself until it airs in Calgary, which I assume will be 7pm.

OP should throw (Spoilers) in the title just to be safe but I agree that after it airs in Calgary it should be fair game.

Forgive me I am not a gamer, but is it any fun to play story mode or are you just watching cut scenes? I'm all for not having to look around for stuff and repetitive side quests, but I still want to have some fun playing a game.
What about Part 2?

Part 2 is significantly longer than Part 1. Probably 25-30 hours for the first playthrough.

It just makes the game very easy -- so you have lots of health, enemies don't spot you as easily, plentiful ammo, etc. For someone that has lots of experience with games it may decrease the challenge enough to be less fun or interesting, but I would imagine someone who doesn't play games at all would still find it tense and exciting and would likely even still be challenged.

I've never actually played it on story mode. I just know that the purpose is to make the gameplay sections trivial and non-challenging. It doesn't result in just watching cutscenes because there's still a lot of story in between all the cutscenes - probably most of it, actually, as TLOU part 1 was at the time it came out by far the best game to implement important narrative into the gameplay sections. It's just that you probably won't have to re-try sections of the game because they're not going to challenge you.
I'm pretty sure you can switch the difficulty partway through, though, so you could try it and amp it up if you want more of a challenge. I was just suggesting the method that would take the least time. Regardless, my main point was just it's worth playing in video game form; it's probably not going to be the best TV show in history but for my money it's still the best video game.
Oh, and definitely do not start with Part 2, that's just a terrible idea for many reasons. In short, it's longer, slower, grimmer, more of a grind to get through, and overall not as good a game.

I played TLOU Part 2 on a low difficulty (I don't know if it was Story Mode or one higher) because I knew I'd never find the time to finish it otherwise, and it still has decent game play. It's not super-challenging, but you still have to think about how to play things to avoid getting killed.

Story mode is just the easiest setting rebranded to avoid stigma because developers found that no one wanted to play on beginner or novice or super easy settings.
But calling it story mode removed that stigma and allowed people to play the game in their own way.

I'm the same way and recently got a PS5 after not having any gaming for years.
I play everything on the easiest mode and just enjoy the stories and doing something different with my free time.
I play 1 game at at time and look for games that are up to around 20-30 hours max.
It's great! Just started The Last of Us and enjoying it so far.

Didn't know it was possible to like Pedro Pascal more than I did, but here we are.
Still haven't seen the show but looking forward to it.
