Is it because Tkachuk, coming from Calgary, didn't have to completely adjust his style to play a 200 ft game within Maurice's system?

Everyone else who played in Florida under Brunette last year has seemingly regressed this year (including Huberdeau if you want to include him as someone who had to learn a new system that put more emphasis around checking and defensive responsibility). You could also make a case for Weegar.

I mean, you don't get to be the NHL's all-time losingest coach without... well... not being a good coach.

Spoiler!

Could be so and that would be fine if they would be better defensively to compensate. But they're not, and since december they have been bad at everything. Maybe they need more time but the team doesn't seem to have an identity right now. Way to go, Maurice. Just like in Winnipeg

Tkachuk is better than all but Shanahan and Iginla on that list of players you mentioned.
I mean... Tom Wilson, Wayne Simmonds and Milan Lucic? Lol, yeah, sure, but that's not a high bar.

Cam Neely, Rick Tocchet, John LeClair, Old Man Tkachuk...?

Spoiler!

He's in the conversation, but he ain't better than them. (Or Kevin Stevens, for that matter.) Maybe if he keeps his current level of play up for a few more years.

Was looking at Johnny's stats so far and saw that he's still chugging along despite pretty meh linemates and he's currently scoring at a PPG pace. That's pretty good actually.

Tocchet and Kevin Stevens were not in the same class with M Tkachuk

Takchuk may have bạck to back 100 pt before he is 26

When he is done, he may have better numbers than Neely and leclair as well, injures or not

Dude is no longer a Flames but he is legit

Did the definition of powers forward change? Powerful forwards usually leave a mark in the playoffs Tkachuk has yet to show up.

It definitely has changed, but that's mostly because the game itself has changed. You're not going to see Iginla type players, that play every aspect of a bruising grinders game, and also score with the best in the league, anymore.

Not sure 82 points and -60 is all that good...he has basically abandoned all defensive responsibility

Might not be a popular opinion around here

What did Sutter say before. Players can play for goals and assists, or they can play to win? Something like that. But if the Jackets are that bad he might as well try to put on a show for the fans.

I don’t really consider Tkachuk a power forward. Power forwards are usually the players that carry an offensive line with them and are usually pretty quick. I would say Alex tuch, tags Thompson are more power forwards. Tkachuk is more an agitator like Claude Lemieux brad Marchand etc

Problem is he will be worse offensively and defensively

Bold prediction: JG will be bought out in year 3.

Tkachuk hasn't more than replaced last year Panther Huberdeau...as good as he has been he isn't 2nd in league scoring and unlikely he gets to 115 points.

It's not that surprising they are poor, even if that is a wash they lose Weegar and others mentioned. Seemed obvious they would be way worse.

That is beyond bold.
He's an elite player and still will be for many years. His team sucks, but there's zero reason they would buy out their best player.
Especially since they'll have such a poor roster around him that they shouldn't have any cap troubles.
