Of course you are assuming they aren't holding out for a vote to start the process to repeal the 13TH amendment, I mean its both originalist and a states rights issue sounds like a GOP thing.

Ain't nothing in the Canadian, Albertan or municipal politics thread that is as entertaining as this vote for the speakership.
Perhaps it's cos I live in Canada that this all seems humorous. However, if Danielle Smith does get voted in, what's happening down the US is simply the next logical step for Alberta. And that's scary.

This article from GirlySports is good and points to the problem that the right in both Canada and US have right now. Trump's win essentially opened the door on the right to the 'appeal to the hardliner' (others had tried it before - the tea party as one obvious example). That led to more hard right participating in primaries/conventions and then more candidates from this group and power to this group.

It would be so nice if the moderates from both parties could caucus and pick a leader and agree to support some at least basic common sense policies, but that is never going to happen I guess since the good of the country is the last thing anyone seems to care about any more.

I think there's an argument to be made that letting the GOP eat itself alive, and show what kind of clowns they are, will actually do a lot of good for the country.
The Dems have absolutely no obligation to do anything about this.
If McCarthy is chosen as speaker, it'll just be 2 years of obstructionist BS from the house, and not much will get done.
At least this way, nothing gets done, but the American people may start to realize electing a bunch of GOP clowns isn't such a good idea.
Besides, if you were a Democrat in there, is there really a single GOP member that you would trust to hold up their end of any bargain?
They've shown themselves to be bad faith actors in just about every situation imaginable, so I don't see why the Dems would/should do much to help get them out of this situation.

As a 37 year old, I can confidently say a 38 year old was absolutely part of the WoW generation, although -- like me -- they might never have played it.

This woman is an embarrassment to the state of Florida. Mind you Kat would probably prefer Big Macs and wine.

Round 7 starting. McCarthy reportedly conceded more to the 20, allowing just a single member to call for a vote to remove him, putting more of them on the rules committee, and bring legislation to a vote that they know won't pass but want to vote on anyway to make it look like they tried. 3 term limit for the House is supposedly one of them.

Does 3 term limit mean max 6 years?

Yeah 6 years.. seems way too short, the problem is lobbyists have no term limit.. so such short terms would mean lobbyists would be depended on even more.
And now there's 7 votes against McCarthy which means round 8 incoming.

Obviously a joke nomination, but I'm curious what would happen if a random person was nominated and won the required amount of votes, but the person had no interest at all in taking the job.

This thought crossed my mind yesterday when someone mentioned anyone could be nominated. Not that this is going to succeed, just more dumb dumb.

I read the piece in the WaPo by Philip Bump that was posted earlier, but I think the political animus is much easier explained. It's simply frustration at a changing society that isn't easily explained. Anyone who can point to a simple culprit with sufficient animosity can ply off some support. That leaves a bunch of amoral sharks finding different culprits to direct the anger at to steal support and it's now it's McCarthy in the crosshairs, Trump will become an elute at some point too. They'll always eat their own eventually
