Flames are 5th place in 5v5 XGF% and the second most penalized team in the NHL. Currently have a -20 powerplay differential.
It's hard to ignore all of these things put together. Something is wrong.

agreed
not going to cry about it incessantly, but also not going to look the other way and pretend to chalk it up to hrudey's lame excuse of "sometimes they see it, sometimes they dont"
a team that's 5th in 5v5 xgf% should not have a -20 penalty differential
it goes against the logic of what usually constitutes a penalized play - chasing the play
the Flames are chased much more than they chase
while the flames themselves can at times lack discipline, the easy conclusion to draw from this is infractions committed by other teams are not getting called nearly enough

If you want so say you didn't like Markstrom's game, go ahead. But using the shot stats to support your position has zero validity

there's also the small matter of the Jets win validating the shot stats.

Yep. This is what the story tonight should be. PP, 5 on 5, whatever. Some of the skilled guys need to score when it matters.

88 really needs to start potting some goals soon.

What a waste
The line has been useless for awhile now

maybe for 2 periods
pump the brakes
but yes they need a better long term solution there than lucic, who is a passable stopgap at best

Celebrated Square Root Day
|
My feelings on the game
- Fun game to watch, nice pace, both teams played great, could have gone either way.
- Both goalies were excellent, mostly took tips and screens to beat them
- Love Weegar, he's looking exponentially better every game these days and is finally starting to become an offensive threat, which could be the equivalent of picking up a scorer at the deadline (but I still think we need to pick up a scorer, regardless).
- Lucic is old and slowing down with a broken body. Sitting him and then giving him opportunity works as he needs the rest, but you can't just sit him and then play him on our top line indefinitely. He complimented them well when he came back, now he's back to slowing them down and being an anchor.
- Mangianpane needs to be something on this team with his contract or we're screwed.

I get that Sutter will never give Phillips a real shot, but a 1st round pick of this organization has 95 points in his first 96 AHL games and he can’t get a look either.

Sutter is right, but he might want to consider who he has playing with his most talented forward

He is paid $5.8MM to score goals, that’s his job. He isn’t getting his job done.

Agreed on the Lucic thing. He shouldn't be in that spot full time. They need a solution sooner or later.

I looked at the goal again, you're right it was much more about being screened especially by our own guy. Markstrom was trying to get a better look that's why he was not 100% set. Not his fault.

Not that I think Markstrom lost the game, but In all situations Natural Stat trick had them at 7-7. Markstrom was good, but Hellebuck was better.

Pretty good game. Good goaltending.
Anderson at the pp point seems like a weak spot for me. He's just too slow at moving the puck. Weegar is looking for better and better. Would like to to see him, at least on pp2.

while lucic has brought good energy to that line, he also has hands of stone and won't help the other two finish
he had no business being on an nhl 2nd line today
if Sutter wants finish maybe he should do his part and try structuring his top 6 more appropriately
that probably includes either promoting ruzicka there or playing one of the top scorers from the farm
not sure he's up to doing what it will take as coach though

I disagree. Markstrom made as many or more 10 bell saves. Flames even when getting the high end chances usually find a way to miss or shoot it at the goalie.

Swap Lucic and Ruzichka at the very least. But I think all the lines need re-evaluating.

The team will continue to lose these 1 goal games when you’ve got a 12th/13th forward weighing down Huberdeau and Kadri.
The Flames need another scoring forward if they want to come out on top of these games.
It was a fun game to watch, but when you think of the fact that the Jets were missing some key forwards…it’s not a great sign. We’re healthy, they aren’t - and we still aren’t good enough offensively.
Flames played quite well, but aren’t a good enough to win these types of games it would seem.

okay, guess I was looking at 5 on 5
Heelebuck can have the slight edge, he did win...its just not the story some are trying to make it. Kadri hits the inside of the post, he was a little lucky too. Zadorov goal wasn't exactly great either.
