I actually don't think Markstrom was that bad. But when you are paid $6 million, you have to play better than the other goalie consistently. Not just occasionally.

blaming Markstrom tonight is just ridiculous - 2 tip ins and a snipe from the slot
if Weegar raises that puck, or Kadri's post is a quarter inch closer (or any number of other chances go in), the Flames are the first team to 3 and win the game

I'm usually upset after just about any loss, but that was a solid effort. They'll learn from it, move on, get the next one. Mangiapane looked possessed tonight, Huberdeau is starting to make some really creative plays and is looking stronger on the puck.
It's hard to understand how one could get all Chicken Little at this point in the progression of the team. Frustrating elements? Sure, but they look like a team that's about to get rolling IMO.

Lol if you actually think the Flames have a shot at Bedard then you should just stop watching the rest of the season and skip the pain

This is baseless criticism.
That goal had nothing to do with lateral movement. It was a great tip.

Games like that are frustrating as hell but don’t sting like they did earlier in the season. It’s been a solid month of the Flames dominating with solid goaltending. Eventually the luck will even out. Hopefully it’s at the right time.

Blaming Markstrom once again for an underwhelming, weak set of players in front of him

High danger chances were 7-4 Jets
Goalies were pretty equal, no major discrepancy
Zadorov goal was the weakest of the night
It was a good game, somebody has to lose...####in way she goes

What's tough is it's very hard to not feel the ref's are screwing the Flames this year. The two incredibly soft penalties called in OT earlier in the year, this weak call with under three minutes left.
The Oilers game where the Flames were dominating the Oilers and somehiow the Oilers had a 3-1 pp advantage.
Flames are 5th place in 5v5 XGF% and the second most penalized team in the NHL. Currently have a -20 powerplay differential.
It's hard to ignore all of these things put together. Something is wrong.

These stats are not making sense. I thought we looked more dangerous 5v5 do the missed open nets Weegar and Kadri misses not count as HDC?

Saying your goalie is consistently the second best on the night whilst also underperforming their contract isn't quite the same as "blaming" them.
I'm not saying he's always bad, or was bad tonight. I'm saying he doesn't do his job to the level that his contract implies, relative to most (all?) other players in the league at his position.

Some posters really don't handle losses well. Close game but they seemed to have the bounces. Not sure what there is to be upset about.

Natural stat trick has high danger chances at 7-7 with the Flames having a 32-20 advantage in overall scoring chances.

I have to admit, I actually thought people that watched the game would give Markstrom some slack tonight after playing so solid.
Guess not. I would have thought the continued lack of success on the PP would take more heat, or lack of offense from certain players. Some people really just love putting the blame on the goalie, regardless how he plays. It's kinda weird.

Im not going to blame this game on Markstrom. But its tough to deny that the team scores far less in front of him than they do playing in front of Vladar for whatever reason. And that includes two of our highest scoring games which actually were in front of Markstrom.
By my napkin math counting up GF and GA per game each goalie started:
Markstrom:
GF AVG: 2.88
GA AVG: 2.74
Vladar
GF AVG: 3.38
GA AVG: 2.76

Blaming Markstrom tonight is absolutely bizarre. He's been great for awhile now.

I knew it wasn't going to be fairly called game when I saw Garrett Rank was one of the refs. The guy lives up to his name.
