I am going to bring a bit of positivity to this thread. Yes officiating was bad. Yes we did not score enough.
But man, that might have been the best loss I have seen the Flames play ever.
I was at the game and it was super entertaining. Oilers were coughing up pucks left right and center especially in the third. Their D is absolutely atrocious. Skinner is going to worn out by March at this rate especially if Campbell continues his subpar season and plays much less.
16-6 in high danger chances and 3.5-1 in shot toward net advantage. No Woodcroft we weren't just shooting from the red line. We dominated your defense.
If we clean up the dumb offensive zone penalities and Markstrom continues to trend toward even 910 SV% we should have a great second half. Huberdeau is starting to feel it. Not sure Lucic is the right winger for him but will give Sutter a bit more time to see if it could work.
If Woodcroft thinks that was a good game plan and his team was fine. The Oilers will be the least of our concerns come the post season.
I won't be a bit surprised if this game is just the kind of game that finally gets the boys to really believe in what Sutter is trying to sell them. That sure looked like the style of play that wins playoff games!

Ugh. I hate losing to the Coilers.
On the plus side, it looks like Markstrom has figured out the Yips that the Oilers gave him
On the minus side...Offence??

I don't think you know the meaning of curbstomp is ?
If they had curb stomped them the Flames would have won by multiple goals and suffocated them defensively.
You dont curb stomped an opponent losing 2-1 with a team with that defense and goaltending regardless of reffing.
Edmonton had 22 shots to Calgarys 47 and lost 2-1 if that's a curb stomping may as well just tank. Low bar expectations.

Well in the last 7 they one 1 playing like that so..... math seems off.

Let's be honest, that was one of the most complete games the flames have played this year. Oilers can have their lucky win. Whenever we paste them, they tighten up their ship and go on a run anyhow. I'm completely fine letting them and their fans and their complacent amateur hour coach believing they played a good hockey game tonight.

Curb stomped is a bit much but the Flames win that game something like 7-8 times out of 10. Elite offensive players and puck luck make it nearly impossible to get above 8.

I agree with everything you said. Especially the Lucic not the right winger for Huberdeau comment.
This team definitely needs one more winger that can consistently put the puck in the net via setups from Huberdeau.
There currently isn’t one on the roster or on the AHL team. It has to come via trade or a deadline rental. It would be a game changer.
Huberdeau should have had at least one or two more assists tonight. He had some great passing plays that weren’t finished.

Maybe curb stomping isn't a good description of any hockey game.
On another note, great game by Backlund by my eye test.
Need more from Kadri and Lindholm though.

Feel the same way. Markstrom proved he can put a game together against the Oilers, which if not important for him should be plenty important for the critics who think the Oilers are in his head.
Offensively? Yikes. Hard to see them play that well and have only one goal to show for it, but I also agree with the people that say if they play the same way they win that game a lot more than they lose it. Sometimes there’s no luck to be had.

Huberdaeu sucks. He's going to be a 50 point player here. He's a major major disappointment.
This team needs to get on a nice, long losing streak before the deadline. I'm not letting a few wins against sj and Anaheim fool me.

Which goalie made the tougher saves tonight if?
Which team took dumber penalties?
Which team has top end players that actually put up points tonight?
Lower your pom poms bud, we all want the flames to be a good team. There's no shame in calling them out when just aren't a good team this year.

Agreed. We are one scoring winger short. Such a tough call to burn our 1st round pick for one just yet. Especially this year with such a strong draft. Coronato might be the answer post NCAA season (51 goals his draft year) but Sutter would never buy in to that.
The boys need to prove to BT they are worth buying for at deadline. We are not their yet but trending.

I can see it from both sides he did play well. Made some key saves but on the other hand he was a sliver away from being sub 900 again with a .909 % .
The Barrie goal no chance . McDavid nice shot but he really was already slid way over to the right. It was post and in but McDavid had tons of room regardless. He could have shot that 12 to 14 inches over and that would still go in.

Dang I didn't delete my post in time...
Oilers were not the better team tonight, get real. Call me a homer if you want I bet 75%+ of people here will disagree that the Oilers were the better team tonight
Neither teams top end players put up points tonight...it was a 2-1 game
Oilers didn't take dumb penalties because the refs refused to call them...they did dumb things at least as much as the Flames did

Can someone post the Woodcroft interview. I cannot believe he said we were shooting from red line and that his team played fine.

16 high danger chances from the redline
his great coaching has a team with a 150 point player on the playoff bubble

Mcdavid scored on his chance. Huberdeau tpassed a grade a chance from the middle slot to toffoli...
Flames shot more, oilers had better chances (markstrom was fantastic tonight).
Oilers played their game. Oilers suck, it's basically mcdavid/draisatl and the pp.
The flames aren't any better than the oilers, as that recipe works just fine against this group.
Nothing I have seen this year leads me to believe that the Oilers wouldn't beat the flames in 5 again in a best of 7.
Looking forward to games against sj and maybe Anaheim to make us feel good about this team though....

Again that math is wrong . They have good games in the Last 22 games . Starting from 2020 the Oilers have won 14 games including play offs.
6- 4 2021
2-2 2022
1-4 2022 playoffs
2-1 2023
