not even that. a booster aided "leaping" mechanism for cars would work too

or the car lauches an expandable ramp ahead of it to use to clear wreckage or debris

at least if people are dismembered on the landing, every one can go out in cooler fashion than helplessly plowing into one another

I don’t really care about what you think about my posts or about you watching the trees. It’s pretty simple: if you plow into another vehicle, you were going too fast for conditions.

If conditions suddenly turn that bad, you slow down completely or pull over. How is this more controversial than “whoops nothing you can do but get into an accident in weather like this!” Honestly, come on.
yeah, Calgary weather changes quickly, but not that quickly

pretty sure it's not hard to spot freezing rain and plummeting temperatures in time to put yourself in a position to avoid smashing into people at a fatal speed. accidents due to conditions aren't like the boogeyman, who sneaks up and gets you if you're unlucky.. that sounds like the excuse of people who are just negligent in poor conditions

winter tires help with stopping distance, but they still don't allow you to stop on a dime if the conditions are poor. treating slick roads like they're bone dry is just leaving it up to fate. but it's not like people have to do it

slower speeds that allow you to stop in time for most things that happen to "jump out" at you. it's not appealing to many, but at least the people who reduced their speed probably aren't dealing with major car repair bills and chalking it up to the accident bug

to put a twist on a quote by Ayn Rand, you can ignore physics, but you can't ignore the consequences of ignoring physics

You have a long road that people travel on for up to hours, and weather impacts are local and time dependent

Have some of you people never been somewhere where it’s raining out back but not out front?

Or climb the little green barrier if you don't want to stay in your car, but ffs get the hell off the road.

Very close to a Darwin award death.

No real significant records broken in that cold snap, but it was the longest "max temp under -20" stretch since 1996, and only 5 times have there been longer stretches of windchill -30 or worse. It's a one in ~20 year cold snap.

Well, really what we need are less cars overall regardless of whether they fly, or are electric or whatever.

I’ve never been in an accident driving in the winter. Even driving through the mountains or on highways littered with accidents. Blizzards with low visibility, iced over roads, even watching a car spinning out of control in front of me on Deerfoot. I always arrive in the same condition I left in.

Laughing because you get into more accidents than I do is embarrassing for you, honestly. Experiencing a pile-up isn’t a show of skill, it shows you lack it. All of the people that avoided that 401 pile-up would agree.

I don’t get into accidents, and have never been in a pile up. I also don’t judge people who have. The fact you believe every motor vehicle accident, no matter what the road conditions are, are 100% avoidable is what’s funny.

Additionally, people were aware of this storm for about a week prior. The easiest solution is not to drive in blizzard conditions.

Meanwhile back on earth, food needs to be delivered to grocers, sewers need to be cleared, hospitals need supplies. Storms coming, let’s shut everything down.

It’s a 100- car pileup, it wasn’t just semis. Semis absolutely need to continue driving in those conditions, but the regular cargoer does not need to be on the road. And, if someone gets caught in a blizzard while driving, while already aware that it was going to be a blizzard, you’re an idiot. Plain and simple..

Agreed. Until then, flying cars. With racing stripes on them.

Sure, if you’re going for a cruze during an ice storm on one of the busiest highways in Canada for no reason you’re an idiot.

No she doesn’t. But if you live in Canada, you can’t really plan around it can you? Unless of course you rock a CG parka, and are an expert ice road driver.

I learned to drive by accident. The hardest part was learning to avoid the guy behind me who wouldn't admit the roads conditions were less than ideal.

Family in Mississauga just lost power, so that may cause some changes to Christmas plans for today and tomorrow for them…haha. I told her she needs to find a neighbor with a charcoal smoker ASAP for her turkey.

They are 100% avoidable. There is no such thing as an unavoidable accident in a vehicle, someone is always at fault whether it’s being purposefully negligent or making a mistake.

I’m not judging anybody outside of pointing out the simple fact that he was going too fast for conditions. Insurance and the law itself judges people in collisions plenty enough for everyone, and neither shrug their shoulders at black ice and say “oh well, you did your best, who could have known??” If you rear end a stopped vehicle because you hit a patch of ice, it sounds like you’re going to be extremely surprised when you’re found at fault and your insurance has to cover the other person’s bill. Hope you find it just as funny

Ya 100% avoidable. The wild life that jumps out of no where is totally on you. I mean you’re right, every traffic accident is completely avoidable.

1) Wildlife
2) Mechanical failure

A negligible portion of accidents, but not 0%.
