Nope Bettman will issue Order 66.
If the Oiler ball falls first, he'll pick it up, yell nope loudly and fling the ball across the room.
The Oilers will secretly be banned from ruining anymore players or cherry picking the draft.

I’ve never predicted a cup final for them, well maybe as a kid. Last year I said they would make some noise in the playoffs and maybe win a round or two. Call it a hunch but this year I like this team a lot.. and do see them climbing the standings after the new year.

Other than two obvious players on the team, what can you possibly say is standing out?? What makes you think.. "yup, this team is moments from punching it's ticket right on through to the finals!"..other than a hunch, which is grasping at best.
Serious question.

Their elite power play for starters. An ability to raise their game when needed. A confidence holland will improve the team with a trade or two, even if it’s not an optimal trade contract wise, but one that will improve the team this year regardless. A young goalie who’s playing well, and a backup who can turn it around and get hot. As stated their D concerns me as it always does, but we fly by the offence and outscore a lot of our defensive mistakes. I think they tighten up as the year goes though. Kane comes back, hopefully he will be somewhat back to form. A good coach, which you probably don’t agree with, but the players respect him and his game plan. And mostly the Connor Mcdavid factor which I think you guys way underplay. Add a Draisaitl Nuge and Hyman, I like our chances.

Do you think that what you've said has some inherent value attached to it? Because you wrote it or something? It doesn't, least of all here. Keep it in the old noggin. This is what it sounds like to anyone who isn't you:
I am a big fan of a sports team and I hope they do well. Because of that hope, I am willing to predict that they will in fact do well and with zero substance, information or any basis whatsoever and with zero on the line, I will state right here and now, that this is certainly a prediction you should listen to. Why? Because in my imagination, everything goes right for me and my team. Ok guys, have a good night!

Lol as an oilers fan of 40 years and a Tennessee titans fan of decades, I can assure you everything does not go alright for me when it comes to sports. I have had countless disappointments and have been hyper critical of the teams I cheer for always seeing the negative because it comes out so often in big games. Last year I think changed the fabric of the oilers. We’re not as fragile as we used to be. No I don’t think my opinion matters any more than anyone else’s but does matter as much as anyone else’s.

Oh, here's the problem. You think that every opinion matters equally. That's false. Some opinions are well thought out, insightful, evidence-based and rooted in reality. Some opinions are based on a wishful hunch.

I'll say it again. The Leafs let Campbell walk when he would have come back on the same awful deal he got from the Oilers and traded for a goalie that looked like his career was in shambles.
Ken Holland is one the biggest dummies in the NHL once the salary cap was implemented he was exposed for the crappy gm he is. Look at thr mess he left in Detroit and look at what Yzerman has done.
I hope the Oilers extend Ken.

He is +11 if that counts for anything but he fails the eye test so far imo.

It was a “gamble” to give him Makar/Josi/Fox/McAvoy money? Even $7.0 would have been a huge gamble. No one anywhere outside of Lowe and Holland’s leather lounge thought Nurse had any type of chance performing up to $9.25. If he improves his peak is probably $6.5. He was only given $9.25 so his name would be included in with those other 4 because Edmonton incessantly tries too hard to feel included.

As I was saying, other than the obvious two.
1) So that cancels out the power play right there, because it's nothing without the obvious two. I think we can all agree on that.
2) Ability to raise game when needed. Once again, isn't happening with out the obvious two. The ability to raise their game when needed is a definite fear for opposing teams, but only occurs when they feel like it, and only involves offence. Defence, forget about it.
3) Young goalie playing well. Well, he's going to have to because the other one's ship sailed it looks like. I hope he can handle Markstrom type minutes better than Markstrom can, because that's how he's gonna ride the rest of the way. But as you say, you "fly by Mcdrai offence", so there is that I guess.
4) Confidence in Holland helping team with a trade or two - Ruh Roh

Nurse was extended and given that raise to the extent it was, to prove to McDavid that the Oilers were committed to winning long term. A few years back when McDavids agent came to Edmonton to have that chat it scared Lowe and Katz into doing whatever it took to make McDavid happy and not demand a trade. This (along with a concerted effort really pushing the media (Sportsnet) to pump his tires) signing was a direct result of that...as was Hyman. And RNH.

When I hear Oilers taking it to another level, or raising their game, I think score more PP goals and how do you do that? Dive at point of contact or whine to the media there's not enough PP calls, not a recipe for success.

Oh good god, so if everything goes absolutely perfectly the Oilers will make the finals? I hate to say that, you can say that with every team in the the league. But the
Knock . . . Knock
Who's there
Its reality man.
The calls will be harder to get in the playoffs, so the powerplay might be less of a factor then you think, and usually the teams in the playoffs, pretty much the majority have elite penalty killing.
Ok what else.
What does Holland have to be confident about? He's literally driven your team into cap hell, lost most trades, and has, what's that word I'm looking for . . . oh right, leverage, he has none. He doesn't have a lot of exciting assets that he's going to swing to get the defensive help that he needs unless your willing to trade a big chunk of your future. But oh and
Ding Dong
Who's there
Oh you're from amazon, and your dropping off that package of reality.
Holland is going to massively overpay for help. Why, because skype all set up and ready to go.
What else, a young goalie that's playing well. You'd better hope that he can play 55 games at a high level for a team with an atrocious blueline, and a rita repulsive level bottom 6, and two stars that don't give a shyte about the teams side of the center ice line.
What else? Good coach, not really, meet the new coach, he's the same as the old coach. He can't get the team to adopt a defensive system. He can't convince his top two players to play two way hockey. I could coach the Oilers man, and have the same record that this turd does. Lets see Ok here goes
"Conna - Pissy get out there."
I am a hockey coaching god!!!
And the Conna and Leon factor, its not enough. In the NHL in the 2020's you can't outscore that bad of a blueline.
Oh well, in a few weeks with the Oilers dropping like a stone. Nice effort against the Nucks tonight man by the way. You'll stop posting and putting up and I quote in a squeeky voice.
"If everything goes absolutely perfect or above expectations, the Oilers could make the finals"
Yeah and if I could afford a million dollars worth of plastic surgery, a personal fitness training. Luck on the Stock Market, a complete charm transplant and a Lamborghini, Scarlett Johanson could be my wife.
Accept it, if anything you should be proud.
You can handle this whole Oilers thing one way or another.
When your kid (Oilers) comes home with a subpar report card, you can yell at him about how you expected better from him, and send him to his room without dinner.
Or the right thing
You can glower at the kid while your wife whispers in your ear "Now Frank what do you expect, he does come from your genetic pool and you're kind of stupid for believing in him. And then you smile at your kid (Oilers) and say, that's ok at least you didn't tie your shoes together today, and that's progress.
But back to the Oilers.
Oh wait my phone is ringing let me get that
Hello
Its reality calling.
The Oilers have seriously over achieved this year thanks to the powerplay. You should be grateful that they're still in the playoff race.
But after Christmas when the contenders ramp their games up. The Oilers will fall over a cliff, and then you can start reading about the next hot prospect that the Oilers will draft because he has a youtube video of him bouncing a puck on his nose and orking like a Seal, and that's the type of player that gets the Oilers scouting department and the owners kid all rigid.
