You forgot Bedard signs with CSKA Moscow, then and only then it would be a scenario

I was at the game as well. They could not complete a pass to save themselves. That might be in the top five of worst home games in the last several years.

This team hasn't any leader to take take the team to the next level. Bunch of supporting stars that may be very good play without pressure behind somebody. Markstrom can't bring his A game when we really need a win. Huberdeau was very good behind Barkow's line, and Lindholm is one of the best C of the league when supports an elite winger.
And our Ds were deep better than average D, but without Tanev they just play roles guys who can't change momentum for the game.
I see this is a perfect wild card team that will be crushed on very first controversy in playoff series against their first round.

I haven't watched too many games this year, but I watched most of this one. I think Huberdeau looks good but nowhere near $10.5 million good. at least he's physical though and looks like he gives a damn. he might just need some different linemates. would be nice to bring someone in he can bounce some picks off of. but yeah, you can tell he's got the tools but for whatever reason it's just not working for him at the moment. Problem to me is clutch goaltending. we need to string some wins together and build some confidence.

I was watching Matt Barzal last night and thinking that was what I was hoping Huberdeau was going to be.

Seems to be the majority of games this season though. If they lose playing a system, that's one thing. However, they look completely lost out there.

Actually, that is exactly what Sutter does. He’s mentioned it multiple times. If the team does this this and this - wins will follow. Shots was one of those metrics.

center depth be damned, team is probably better with prime Tkachuk than Kadri
didn't think I would be saying that

If Kadri didn’t sign in the first couple of days of FA, we should of left his ass begging with Uncle Lou… Instead we traded a wild card 1st rounder which by the way isn’t that far off when next year is 2023…

Would it be more fun on this board if it was just homogenous, blind optimism?

Yep, 100%. I mostly watch as an observer to CP discussion, and honestly the "OMG here comes the negative crowd!!!!!" are just as guilty of dividing and ruining discourse as the negative crowd, imo.
Look at any thread and they just dominate the discussion with "OMGG look another brutal, negative take!!!!" every time anyone has concerns or negative feelings towards the team.

That seems like a really silly way to waste your time. “What are you up to tonight?” “I’m going to spend 2 hours watching a team I hate watching play a sport I barely like and then sit on the internet talking about how much I dislike that team.”
Incredibly cool stuff. I can’t think of anything less rewarding.
And to be honest, yeah, it would probably be more fun if we were all just blind optimists who just had fun watching the game. It kind of sucks reading through the same repetitive complaints by the same 20 people bumping the same dumb threads, but it’s fun to make fun of at least. As long as we’re all having fun, whatever that looks like is cool.
|
Cool story. If you’re disappointed flames fans, pack it up because it’s not fun anymore, and don’t complain amongst each other because it’s depressing for the optimists to read.
Glad you’re having fun making fun of people. That’s a much better way to spend time.

It’s built well from top to bottom. It’s easy to say we miss 13 and 19 but they had some bad years too. We finished 1st in the western conference and were a 1st round exit.
For some reason, they don’t have their mojo. But if they get it back, they have a lot of experience to grind out playoff wins.
I may have Homer glasses on but I think they’ll be fine.
|
Me too, I really think that Huberdeau is going to come around (and already is) despite not having proper line mates. I also think Treliving knows we're down at least one top 6 forward and will make a move for one.
We look mediocre now, but I could see Sutter getting through to the new players, and addition or two and suddenly we start to look much better and surprise in the playoffs.

I’m sick of people arguing over what is the biggest issue.
There are issues everywhere:
Forwards
Defence
Goalies
Coaching
Discipline for all of the above
Contracts
If get good goalkeeping and concede two, we’ll score one.
If we get good offence and score four, we’ll concede five and give up a host of breakaways, two on ones and sometimes, two on nones.
No lead is safe, not even two goal leads in the third - so we’re always on edge.
Our discipline, particularly in crunch situations is non-existent and constantly costs us.
We are outcoached almost every night from when we were by a rookie POS in the playoffs.
But yeah, lets argue over what is worse, our goal scoring or our goalies.

On a positive note, we're on a 6 game unbeaten in regulation streak in Canada
